I know this was on Fire and Ice, but I found it on Sportsnet first, and since they're a reliable source, I chose their article. Anyway, MacLean basically suggested that although this isn't set in stone, he will probably have three elite LW. My guess at the Devils' lines to start the season would be: Parise-Zajac-Clarkson Kovalchuk-Zubrus-TEDENBY (he reportedly practiced at RW) Elias-Arnott-Rolston Now that looks better, to me, than stacking six forwards at different positions. I personally like this better, but again, none of this is set in stone.
Contract is worth a total of $19.875 mil, comes with a cap hit of $3.975, does not contain a no-trade or no-movement clause. Overpaying him if you ask me, now the Rangers are $4 Mil over the cap; expect either Redden or Rozsival to be buried in the minors/bought out.
For those of you hoping that Eric Belanger might be the third-line center, looks like it is back to Square One....
Not really a surprise. If I remember correctly this will allow the Devils to go over the cap by the amount of Salmela's salary which is $612,500.
Anyone hoping to see the Devils bring back Bill Guerin for a second stint similar to past returns of Holik, Shanahan, Rolston, et al, will be disappointed. He's on his way to Philly, instead.
"We were today advised of the ruling by the Commissioner with respect to the Kovalchuk matter. We disagree with the decision. We acted in good faith and did nothing wrong. We will have no further comment." - Lou Lamoriello
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=537381The NHL fined the Devils $3 million dollars, a first round draft pick and a third round draft pick. The Devils may elect to have their first round draft pick taken away between 2011 and 2014. As established previously, the fine will not count against the salary cap.
Good game on right now from October 12. It's on MSG+ with about 4 minutes left in the 1st period. I won't disclose the result but here's John's recap.
