New Jersey Devils Prospect Update: World Juniors Edition

USA won the World Juniors tournament this year. Here is how Devils prospects Lenni Hameenaho and Seamus Casey fared.

The World Juniors this year featured two of perhaps the most promising Devils prospects not already with the big club: winger Lenni Hameenaho and defenseman Seamus Casey. Neither disappointed and one walked away with the championship. This post summarizes the tournament for each player.

Lenni Hameenaho

The Devils 2nd round pick from last year’s draft, Lenni Hameenaho had an excellent tournament for Team Finland scoring six points in seven games. Unfortunately, Finland as a team fell short, squandering a 5-2 lead to fall 8-5 against Czechia in the Bronze medal game. This was despite Hameenaho’s efforts as he had 2 goals in the final game including this beauty.

Here is Hameenaho picking up the garbage in front against Sweden.

All in all, team disappointments aside, it was a strong tournament for the Finnish winger. Hameenaho will continue his developing for Assat in the Liiga, where he leads his team in goals with 11 despite playing 11 less games than some others on the team.

Seamus Casey

The Devils 2nd round pick in 2022, defenseman Seamus Casey came home a champion as Team USA defeated Finland 6-2. While Casey did not score a goal in the tournament he potted six assists in six games. The young defender missed a game due to illness and may not have been 100%, but still played very well when called upon.

All that is to say Seamus Casey returned to Michigan a champion and what do champions get? A gold medal.

And Burritos, apparently.

Casey’s most important assist in the tournament probably came on this power play, which clawed Team USA back in the medal game against Team Finland. The comeback allowed USA to take on Sweden for the gold and forced Finland to compete with Czechia for bronze. Casey went pointless in the final game against Sweden.

I will leave you with this.
