Before we get to hockey today, I just wanted to acknowledge those in the region who have been affected by the severe weather this week. We hope that you and yours are safe and sound today. We’re a hockey blog, but we’re also a community, and I hope that any small distraction or connection this place can provide is helpful.
With that said, here are your links for today:

Corey Pronman’s assessment of the Devils’ NHL pipeline, which he ranks at No. 6: “The draft has been a huge focus for the Devils in recent times, with two No. 1 picks in Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier, and a plethora of picks in significant rounds. The result is a deep farm system with many talented forwards and defensemen you could see playing NHL games.” [The Athletic ($)]

Some big news on the COVID-19 front as the NHL and the NHLPA have finalized protocols for the upcoming season, including what vaccinated/unvaccinated status will mean. Elliotte Friedman reports: “The biggest news is a mechanism for teams to suspend unvaccinated players who are ‘unable to participate in club activities.’ This includes situations where a player cannot travel because of local, provincial/state and/or federal regulations ‘upon return.’ Such individuals would ‘forfeit the equivalent of one day’s pay for each day’ they are precluded from participating.” [Sportsnet]
I'll have a story coming soon on the NHL COVID-19 protocols for this season on @TheAthletic, but I'm told that it's estimated that now 95% of NHLers are fully vaccinated.

NHL-Olympics update:
The NHL & NHLPA continue to grind away with IOC & IIHF on an Olympic agreement. Two things I'm hearing...
— Emily Kaplan (@emilymkaplan) September 3, 2021
-Vaccination will be required for all NHL players participating in the Olympics.
-There will be an opt-out clause/window for NHL & NHLPA if COVID conditions worsen.
The OHL has suspended Habs first-round draft pick Logan Mailloux for violating “the League’s expectation of the appropriate conduct of an OHL player.” [Sportsnet]
