Game Preview #54: New Jersey Devils vs. New York Islanders

New, comments
NHL: New York Islanders at New Jersey Devils Catalina Fragoso-USA TODAY Sports

The Matchup: The New Jersey Devils (17-28-7) versus the New York Islanders (31-16-6)

The Time: 7:00 PM ET

The Broadcast: TV - MSG+2

These Damn’ Isles:

To say the Devils have been bad against the Islanders would be understating just how ineffective the team has been. In the season series, the Devils sit at a paltry 1-4-1, with the only win being a result of a Scott Wedgewood masterclass.

While the scores in these games haven’t been awful, this is more a result of how the Islanders choose to play, where they choose to sit tight on defense and hold their own zone once they acquire a lead. Hopefully, the Devils can find a way to break through this tough Islanders defense and remain competitive throughout.

Welcoming Some Old Faces:

Today will be the first time the Devils face Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac. The two have admittedly struggled with the Islanders, with Palmieri recording only 1 goal and 2 assists through 14 games and Zajac and only 1 goal and 1 assist through 12 games. Part of this can be attributed to reduced roles on stronger teams, but nevertheless us as Devils fans should be excited to see them play again.

Predicted Lines:

I believe the Devils lines, parring any injuries or returns, will look the same as the previous game.

Kuokkanen - Hughes - Sharangovich
Zacha - Hischier - Bratt
Wood - McLeod - Bastian
Studenic - Boqvist - Merkley

Murray - Severson
Butcher - Carrick
Bahl - Tennyson

I would guess Blackwood is starting

The Islanders lines may look like this

Beauvillier - Nelson - Bailey
Palmieri - Pageau - Wahlstrom
Dal Colle - Zajac - Eberle
Johnston - Cizikas - Clutterbuck

Pelech - Pulock
Leddy - Mayfield
Greene - Dobson

Sorokin
