The season, mercifully, has come to an end. After jumping out to a 2-0 lead, the Devils gave up the next four goals to the Flyers on Monday night, and the season, as John put it, ended with a whimper. [NHL] [All About the Jersey] [NorthJersey.com]
With their season over, the Devils had their annual all-too-early clean out day with plenty of interviews and inspiring thoughts about the future. Lots of videos posted on the team’s website right now from that, if you’re so inclined: [NHL]
And if you’re looking for a traditional written piece summing up the season and what’s ahead, here’s one from The Athletic: [The Athletic ($)]

Saturday will mark the first time in #NHL history that a regular season and a playoff game are taking place on the same date.
Pretty cool.
After some pointed comments from Jack Eichel on Monday referring to a disconnect between him and the Sabres, it certainly appears that he might have played his last game for Buffalo. Here’s TSN’s Pierre LeBrun: “Well, first I think it’s important to stress that his camp, led by agent Peter Fish, hasn’t actually officially asked for a trade, sources confirm on this day. Although I think Jack Eichel’s comments perhaps will do the trick from Monday’s availability.” [TSN]
This is, and I cannot emphasize this enough, the best:
