Relief feels just as sweet the next day as the New Jersey Devils finally put an end to arguably the most embarrassing losing streak in franchise history with a wild 6-4 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Of course, this came on the heels of yet another terrible loss clutched from the jowls of victory against these same Flyers in a shootout two days prior.
It’s been a classic tough Devils season and while this streak effectively destroyed any feelings of optimism for a solid month, it’s important to look at the big picture. The Devils will once again be selecting a high draft pick, the players who were supposed to develop have shown significant progress. Overall, the finishing, special teams, and goaltending have been awful or at least subpar for most of the season. This streak exaggerated every facet of those downfalls to a realm of such statistical improbability that it can’t possibly be this bad again, right? I suppose we’ll see!
We talk about the schedule changes as well but in short, life happens and schedules change. All is well, but with the end of the season so close, we won’t do any big official changes and because it is a lost season likely to have more losses, there’s not really much more to say. We’ll record when schedules allow for it but we’ll try to keep it as close as possible to how it was.
Let’s finish strong but not strong enough to ruin the pick! Let’s Go Devils!
