Game Preview #45: Devils vs the Pittsburgh Penguins

New, comments

The Devils look to get revenge against the Pittsburgh Penguins for last week’s losses in the first of a three game series tonight.

NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins at New Jersey Devils Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

The Matchup: The New Jersey Devils (14-24-6) versus the Pittsburgh Penguins (28-14-3)

The Opposition Blog: PensBurgh

The Time: 7:00 PM EST

The Broadcast: MS+2 (I know we’re carried on our rival’s network so we come last, but the condensed scheduling constantly relegating us to the crap channels is, well, crap.)

The good news: The Penguins lost their last game to the Buffalo Sabres 4-2.

The bad news: Last week they beat us 6-4 and 5-2.

More good news: Pavel Zacha and Jesper Bratt were both on the ice yesterday and are expected to travel with the team for the road trip.

I’m not going to discuss what happened with the Devils this past week. We all saw it, we don’t need to relive it. Moving on into the lineups-

The Penguins:

Malkin is still out with a lower-body injury, as is Kaspari Kapanen. Brandon Tanev is also out, not expected to return to the Penguins until at least the end of the regular season due to a shoulder injury.

Guentzel - Crosby - Rust
McCann - Carter - Zucker
Aston-Reese - Blueger - Rodrigues
Zohorna - Jankowski - Sceviour

Dumoulin - Letang
Matheson - Ceci
Petterson - Marino

The Devils:

Zacha and Bratt did take the ice yesterday but it did not sound as though they were confident they’d be returning just yet.

Kuokkanen - Hughes - Sharangovitch
Johnsson - Hischier - Foote
Merkley - Boqvist - Thompson
Wood - McLeod - Bastian

Smith - Subban (I mean, hopefully not, but my expectations are low. I hate this pairing)
Murray - Severson
Siegenthaler - Butcher/Tennyson

Blackwood
