The New Jersey Devils again found themselves in prime position to win, only to put together a shambolic third period/overtime/shootout to essentially escape with another point earned against Boston. The biggest culprit was the early missed opportunities and again the special teams as a power play in overtime looked completely fruitless and embodied the Devils’ special teams struggles. With the final games against Washington looming, they would do well to figure out this aspect of their overall play to scrape some dignity from this season series and avoid losing all eight games against the Capitals.
Elsewhere, we now know that Nikita Gusev has cleared waivers while Tyce Thompson is ready to make his debut in short order. Nico Hischier is getting closer and closer to his return as well as the Devils make their final roster assessments in the remaining games before the trade deadline. We’ll talk more about who will stay and who will go as we get closer to April 12.
As always, thank you for listening. Have a good weekend and Let’s Go Devils!
