Game Preview #22: Devils vs the Washington Capitals

The Devils look to stay in the win column tonight against one of the toughest opponents in the division.

NHL: Washington Capitals at New Jersey Devils Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

The Matchup: The New Jersey Devils (8-11-2) at the Washington Capitals (14-6-4)

The Time: 7:00 PM

The Broadcast: MSG+

Both teams come into tonight with a win against a tough division competitor under their belt: the Devils of course fresh off our 1-0 win against the Boston Bruins on Sunday, and the Capitals following a 3-1 slap to the Philadelphia Flyers.

With no practice on Monday and a win on Sunday, we’ll probably go with a lineup similar to last game:

Maltsev - Zacha - Palmieri
Bratt - Hughes - Johnsson
Kuokkanen - Zajac - Sharangovitch
Wood - McLeod - Bastian

Smith - Severson
Kulikov - Subban
Murray - Vatanen

Will we play Mac or Wedgewood? Honestly, I don’t know, but since Wedgewood played the last name I’m guessing Mac for this one. Maybe. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Butcher in here next to Vatanen, since Ruff seems to like him against the Capitals.

For Washington:

The Capitals will be missing a big name with a bigger reputation from the lineup for the foreseeable future: Tom Wilson was suspended 7 games for an illegal hit to the head that sent the Bruins’ Brandon Carlo to the hospital in an ambulance Friday night. The team is, of course, denying that the hit was deserving of 7 games but sorry guys, it was a horrible hit, it literally hospitalized the guy, and it's Tom Wilson. His record is about as clean as pond scum, so 7 games it is. That leaves Washington playing with this lineup tonight against the Devils:

Ovechkin - Backstrom - Oshie
Vrana - Kuznetsov - Sprong
Hagelin - Dowd - Hathaway
Sheary - Eller - Panik

Dillon - Carlson
Orlov - Schultz
Jensen - Chara

Your Take:

Who starts in net tonight, and why? Do you think we’ll take a win and turn it into two, or are we going to fall to the Capitals yet again? Leave your thoughts in the comments, and thanks for reading.
