Really interesting breakdown here from Elite Prospects on Dawson Mercer’s stickwork:

Front Office Sports reports that the league is looking into allegations that Evander Kane violated the league’s COVID-19 protocols and that the investigation centers “around a fake vaccination card he allegedly submitted.” [Front Office Sports] [The Athletic]
After accusing teams of providing improper medical treatment over the weekend, Robin Lehner said he’s encouraged by his talks with the NHL and NHLPA: “It’s not easy to do this, but I had a great talk with the NHL and the NHLPA over the last day. I’m excited for the potential change to be made to protect a younger generation.” [ESPN]
ESPN on the idea of the NHL making in-roads in Mexico: “The idea of full-fledged expansion beyond the United States and Canada remains far-fetched, but the NHL is seeking to follow in the footsteps of other North American leagues by expanding outside of its traditional fan base. Additionally, the idea of playing either a preseason or regular-season game in Mexico is picking up steam in the highest reaches of the league office.” [ESPN]
Update on an old friend:
TOR announces Nikita Gusev is released from his PTO
— Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) October 6, 2021
Nikita Gusev was NHL all-star game selection level good for the last 40ish games of his first season. And one of the league’s five least valuable players during the rest of his time in NJ. And two new teams in ~7 months later, he might be out of NHL options. Just … weird.
