Sean Shapiro reports on a not terribly surprising but still concerning attendance trend for the league: “During the 2019-20 season, before the COVID-19 shutdown, the average attendance at an NHL game was 17,423 fans per game. This season that average has already dropped to 16,256 through 74 games, and it’s likely that number is going to drop this week with 28 of the 32 teams already having already hosted their home opener — and most likely sellout option — in the early season.” [The Athletic ($)]
