A blown lead. A celebration for the ages. Confidence level high to start the season. This home opener certainly had it all as Jack Hughes salvaged a game where the Devils were fully in control at 5 on 5 play but were once again dreadful on special teams. The fans and social media got a celebration to remember as Hughes launched his stick into the crowd.
The Devils have more games this week but they will all be at the Prudential Center so they have a prime opportunity to build upon an extremely fun start. Severson and Smith look poised to return soon while Jonathan Bernier will have to hold the fort until MacKenzie Blackwood’s heel stops bothering him.
New Jersey will also get its first look at the newly-minted Seattle Kraken today as the Kraken look to bounce back from an absolute drubbing at the hands of the Philadelphia Flyers.
Let’s Go Devils! A good showing in these first five games will go a long way later in the year in what promises to be a tightly fought division.
