Garden State of Hockey- Episode 41: October 29, 1986

We bring it all the way back to ‘86 as the Devils and Penguins play a barnburner of a game.

This game had it all. From dueling hat tricks for Kirk Muller and Kevin LaVallee to a rare Ken Daneyko assist and 88 combined penalty minutes, this was an exciting game to watch and review as the Devils came away with an 8-6 win against the Mario Lemieux-led Pittsburgh Penguins. If you need the full game clip, it’s in our previous podcast which featured Game 7 against the Panthers. This was a really fun look back at a different era of Devils hockey and hockey in general, not to mention sports broadcasting and advertising and it’s amazing to compare the world as it is today using this very familiar subject matter.

Our next game is one that everyone loves and unfortunately at the moment, the English version of this full broadcast eludes me, so here is Game 7 of the 2000 Eastern Conference Final...in Russian!

This is Patrik Elias’s hero moment and we’re very excited to break this one down. It was a hard fought and intense battle of a series and we all know it ended well but the tension is still fun to relive with some distance since this series.

Join us next week for this one and if you have any games in particular in mind for us to talk about, be sure to let us know.
