2020 NHL Draft: Devils Picked Center Jaromir Pytlik at 99th Overall in the 4th Round

At 99th overall, the New Jersey Devils selected Jaromir Pytlik.

Who is Jaromir Pytlik?

Pytlik is a center currently playing for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL. Hailing from Daicice in the Czech Republic, Pytlik is a right-handed shot who recorded 50 points (22 G, 28 A) in 56 games last season with Soo. The 6’3”, 201-pound 19-year-old is another addition to the center depth of the Devils’ prospect pool.

My Initial Reaction to the Pick

I’m not sure why the Devils continue to select centers but Pytlik has some good physical tools and I’m never opposed to adding another Jaromir to the illustrious history of Jaromirs on the Devils. He’ll be in the OHL for a while longer so we’ll see if he can produce a bit more and get a shot at the roster if none of the current pipeline centers step up. A good hockey sense is a nice thing to have, but personally, I’m not sure he’ll have the easiest time jumping ahead of some of the other Devils prospects. We’ll see what he does at future prospect camps but we shouldn’t expect to see him for at least a year or two. As a two-way player, look to see if he can develop his skating skill and translate the chase-down characteristics that scouts are praising him for to the NHL level.
