Today is the second day of the 2019 NHL Draft. After a busy first round, the New Jersey Devils have six picks in the next six rounds. This is an open post for AAtJ readers and Devils fans to discuss the draft as it happens.

Last night, the New Jersey Devils used all three of their first round picks. They came away with right winger Alexander Holtz, center Dawson Mercer, and defenseman Shakir Mukahamdullin. Now we will see how GM Tom Fitzgerald, Director of Amateur Scouting Paul Castron, and the Devils management fill out their 2020 draft class today. They enter today with six picks. Let us see what they will do.

The Time: 11:30 AM ET

The Broadcast: TV - NHL Network, Sportsnet 1. Also, go to NHL.com and follow their draft tracker.

The Devils’ Picks Today: Assuming nothing was gained or removed between yesterday evening and this post, they have six picks today:

  • Third Round - 84th overall (Carolina’s conditional pick from the Vatanen trade)
  • Fourth Round - 99th overall
  • Fourth Round - 120th overall (Acquired from Boston in the Johansson trade in 2019)
  • Fifth Round - 130th overall
  • Sixth Round - 161st overall
  • Seventh Round - 192th overall

The AAtJ Prospect Profiles for 2020: All of them are here.

First Round Thoughts: I summarized the first day of the 2020 NHL Draft for the New Jersey Devils and in general in this post. Please go check that out if you missed it.

A Reminder: This day goes fast. Expect posts on Devils picks or moves that are bare bones at first with more information added later. So please revisit those posts later in the day to learn a little more about the players the Devils have chosen today. Each post will have a poll that will ask for your initial reaction to each pick. The polls will end just before tonight as Sunday will have a summary of what you all thought of the draft class.

The Rules: As always, keep your comments clean & respectful to others, relevant to the Devils and/or the NHL draft as a whole, and do not post illegal streams. We will be trying our best to get posts up for the picks made when they happen. Once that’s done and the draft is over, I will attempt to summarize the Devils’ actions. So please bear with us throughout the morning and early afternoon. Thank you for reading and spending your time during the day on the site as the 2020 NHL Draft will complete the remaining rounds this afternoon.

After today, the offseason frenzy will continue. Qualifying offers are also due today by 5 PM ET, which will be a couple of hours after the NHL Draft ends. This could be a driver of some moves made today by teams. Free Agency Frenzy will begin at noon on October 9. Yes, this Friday. Between the timing, a flat salary cap, and teams having internal budgets, there will be a lot that can happen in a short amount of time. We shall see how much or how little of it involves the Devils and react to it as best as we can.
