This is the end of the four-game road trip as well as the last time the opponent will be from Arizona.

The Matchup: The New Jersey Devils at the Arizona Coyotes (SBN Blog: Five for Howling)

The Time: 8:00 PM ET

The Broadcasts: TV - MSG+, FS-A PLUS; Digital Audio - The Devils Hockey Network

The Song for the Evening: Kyuss is widely considered to be one of the pillars of the stoner rock genre (the others: Fu Manchu, Sleep, and New Jersey’s Monster Magnet. Special mention to Black Sabbath’s Master of Reality album for laying down the initial groundwork), which is a term that guitarist Josh Homme did not agree with at all. A more appropriate and more market-friendly term for this kind of sludgy metal was desert rock. Which absolutely applied to Kyuss, who broke through the Palm Desert, California scene. They cut their teeth early on through generator parties (as in powered by portable generators) in the desert due to a lack of venues. They had to be good. They were. And when you listen to a song like “Whitewater” from their classic album Welcome to Sky Valley, you get the sense of going through the middle of nowhere but still knowing where you are heading. I agree with Homme. This is desert rock. Alas, that genre name did not stick - especially as the scene grew. It is still a great song. So go listen to it.

The Rules: The rules remain the rules regardless of whether you actually listened to the near-nine minute song or not. Please keep your comments clean, legal (read: no streams, no links to streams, no asking for streams, no streams), and all about the games itself. Just as importantly, let’s respect each other. There’s no need for drama or being unwelcoming of your fellow Devils fan. This is a gamethread, let’s focus on the game. Thank you for reading. Go Devils!
