Unless you want to believe that numerous players all with solid resumes all of sudden started to suck, you can't help but conclude the Devils system is ineffective, easy to game plan and contributing to both the lack of development of young players and the regression of veteran players.
How else do you explain a team that includes among its veterans a Hart Trophy winner in Hall, a Norris trophy winner, in Subban, a 30 goal scorer in Palmieri, 2 first overall picks, along with a number of veterans with solid NHL credentials being this bad.
If Ray Shero wants to hang his hat on one playoff berth which they made by one Eddie Lack win as a reason to stay the course he is going to be the next one out. This team is not just disappointing in its struggle to be a playoff team, they are struggling to resemble an NHL caliber team. The Devils are near the bottom in the league in most categories that define success.
The next coach needs a completely different approach because the Fast, Aggressive, Supportive system has degenerated to Slow, Passive and Indifferent. and it looks like Nassardines approach is more of the same.
