Gamethread #45: New Jersey Devils vs. Chicago Blackhawks

The New Jersey Devils look to ride MacKenzie Blackwood to another W as they host the Chicago Blackhawks in the first meeting between the teams this season.

Coming off of a 3-2 home win against the rival Philadelphia Flyers, the New Jersey Devils will attempt to make it two in a row as the Chicago Blackhawks come to the Rock. This is the first match-up between these teams this season, and much like Saturday, it’s a contest between a pair of underachieving teams.

The Hawks come in having dropped their last game at home 4-3 to the Vegas Golden Knights in overtime. They are led by the dynamic Patrick Kane, who leads them in goals (25), assists (35) and points (60), meaning the Devils will need to be wary whenever he is on the ice.

MacKenzie Blackwood will start again for the Devils, and Kevin Rooney comes in for Blake Pietila tonight according to Amanda Stein on her Twitter. This is a winnable game for the Devils, but they will need to play as well as they did on Saturday in order to win.

The Song for the Night: Sweedish metal band In Flames is the artist of choice for tonight’s game, with track #5 off of their 2014 album Siren Charms. The song “With Eyes Wide Open” speaks of moving backwards and lost dreams, which I think many of us as fans can agree with is quite fitting of the situation the team finds itself in right now; with just under three months worth of action left, the Devils do not appear to be in a position to repeat last season’s success and are in serious danger of missing the playoffs. It would be nice to see the team start a run and hopefully prove this theory wrong.

The Rules: The usual set of rules remains in effect before, during and after the game. Please keep the comments clean, legal (read: no streams, no links to streams, no asking for streams, nothing even related to streams), and about the game itself. Make sure to remain respectful to your fellow posters even if you disagree with them. There’s no need for drama or being unwelcoming of your fellow Devils fans.Thank you for reading. Let’s go Devils!
