New Jersey Devils Prospect Update: 5/8/18

Week 31 of the 2017-18 prospect update saw Marian Studenic step up in Game 3 of the OHL Championship and Colby Sissons compete in the WHL Championship.

The thirty-first and final week of the 2017-18 prospect update is here. It’s highlighted by Marian Studenic and Colby Sissons scoring important goals for their respective teams in championship action, Jesper Boqvist get punished by the IIHF for his actions at the WJC months ago, and Gilles Senn serve as the 3rd goaltender for the Swiss team at the WHC. Marian Studenic and Hamilton are out to a 2-1 series lead over Sault Ste. Marie in the OHL Championship. He has a goal, assist, +2, 6 PIM, and 3 shots over those 3 games. The goal and assist came last night in Hamilton’s victory and snapped a 4 game point drought for Studenic. You can check out the goal below. He has continued to contribute defensively and in transition with smart zone entries/exits during that scoring drought though. Overall, in the playoffs Studenic has 3 goals, 11 assists, +16, 10 PIM, and 34 shots in 18 games. Hopefully he can help Hamilton earn the OHL Championship and earn a berth in the Memorial Cup.

Colby Sissons and Swift Current are currently tied 1-1 with Everett in the WHL Championship. In the first 2 games he has a goal, +3, and 5 shots. The goal he scored was a part of a Game 2 comeback win for Swift Current and you can check it out below. Overall, he has 4 goals, 15 assists, +6, 24 PIM, and 68 shots in 22 games as he’s continued his breakout season into the playoffs. Hopefully he can help Swift Current win this title and get a shot at the Memorial Cup.

Jesper Boqvist was one of the Swedish junior players punished for taking off his silver medal during last year’s WJC medal ceremony following their loss to Canada. He was given a 2 game ban for the 2019 WJC Tournament however he will have aged out of eligibility for that tournament. This tweet by a Swedish journalist suggests that the ban could carry over to the senior tournament next year, though that still shouldn’t really affect him.

Gilles Senn is with the Swiss team for the WHC but hasn’t appeared in a game yet, serving as the 3rd goaltender on the roster.
