NJ Devils sign Russian defenseman Yegor Yakovlev to entry level contract

Olympics: Ice Hockey-Men Team Quarterfinal - OAR-NOR Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

The New Jersey Devils signed Russian defenseman Yegor Yakovlev to a one-year entry level contract.

Yakovlev has played in the KHL for the last six seasons, three years each for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl and SKA St Petersburg. He has scored 40 points in his 150 games for SKA. The twenty-six-year-old was a part of the Russia team that won Olympic gold in Pyeongchang and played in the World Championships earlier this month in Denmark.

Yakovlev is a smart left handed defenseman who could fight for a roster spot and potentially be a replacement should the Devils not re-sign UFA John Moore.
