New Jersey Devils Prospect Update: 2/6/18

Week 18 of the 2017-18 prospect update saw Colby Sissons continue to put up points from the Swift Current blue line, a trio of Devils prospects compete in Beanpot action, and Gilles Senn feature in a domestic cup final.

The eighteenth week of the 2017-18 prospect update is here. It’s highlighted by Colby Sissons putting up 7 assists in 3 games, the trio of JD Dudek, Jeremy Davies, and Reilly Walsh compete in Beanpot semifinals, and Gilles Senn make a couple of league starts as well as a Swiss Ice Hockey Cup Final.

Michael McLeod had a busy week for Mississauga. In 3 games he put up a goal, 3 assists, 4 PIM, and 14 shots with a 67.74 FO%.

Marian Studenic was held off the scoresheet against Peterborough and Mississauga on Thursday and Saturday respectively. He did manage 2 assists against Kitchener on Friday though. Overall, in 3 games last week he had 2 assists, +4, and 3 shots. He also had a failed penalty shot attempt against Mississauga on Saturday.

Evan Cormier made 3 starts last week for Saginaw. On Wednesday he made 36 saves on 39 shots in an overtime loss to Flint. He then made just 6 saves on 9 shots in 29:33 against Sault Ste. Marie on Friday. Cormier rebounded with a victory over Flint on Saturday with 29 saves on 31 shots. You can check out him saving the game for Saginaw in the highlight below:

Colby Sissons had another productive week for Swift Current with 7 assists, +4, 4 PIM, and 12 shots across 3 games. According to the WHL site, he’s tied for 1st in points by a defenseman (59) and leads the defenseman in assists (48). Note that I have his assists (47) and points (58) totals a bit different since I’m going strictly off the boxscores.

Brett Seney had 2 goals, an assist, +3, 4 PIM, 4 shots, and won 22.22% of his faceoffs across 2 games against Maine. He now has 3 goals and 2 assists during his 4 game point streak.

JD Dudek had a goal, -3, 3 shots, and won 8/17 faceoffs against UConn on Friday. Yesterday, Dudek had an even rating, 2 PIM, and won 5/8 faceoffs as Boston College was eliminated by Northeastern in a semifinal of the 66th Annual Beanpot Tournament.

Joey Anderson was held to a -1 with 6 shots in 2 games against Denver last weekend.

Jeremy Davies was a +1 with 2 PIM and 5 shots against New Hampshire on Friday. Yesterday, he had 2 assists, +2, and 5 shots as Northeastern advanced to the final of the Beanpot Tournament where they will take on Boston University on Monday. Jeff Cox of SBN College Hockey had this to say on twitter after the game:

Reilly Walsh had an even rating and 4 shots against Dartmouth on Friday. Yesterday, he had an even rating and a shot against Boston University as Harvard was defeated in double overtime of a Beanpot semifinal.

Matt Hellickson had an assist, +1, and 3 shots in 2 games against Penn State last weekend.

Yegor Rykov has been skating with the Russian team ahead of the Olympics to help them prepare for the games.

Mikhail Maltsev had 2 goals, 2 assists, +3, 18 shots, and a 49.21 FO% while averaging almost 15 minutes per game across 4 VHL games last week. Check out this steal and goal from last Tuesday’s match:

Yegor Zaitsev had a goal, assist, +3, and 6 shots while playing between 20-25 minutes per game in 2 MHL games last week.

Nikita Popugaev made his second MHL appearance of the season on Sunday, scoring a goal with a +1 and 2 shots in 18:42.

Jesper Boqvist had a goal, assist, +1, and 8 shots while averaging over 19 minutes per game over 3 games last week.

Fabian Zetterlund was a -1 with a shot in 7:21 in his only game action of the week on Saturday.

Aarne Talvitie didn’t have any games last week but was named Player of the Month for January in the Finnish U20 league. He had 7 goals and 6 assists in 8 games last month.

Gilles Senn made 33 saves on 34 shots and stopped 1 of the 3 shooters he faced in a shootout loss to HC Lugano last Tuesday. On Friday he made 31 saves on 34 shots in a loss to HC Ambri-Piotta. Sunday saw HC Davos fall in the Swiss Ice Hockey Cup final to SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers 7-2. Senn allowed 4 goals in 28:11 before being removed from the contest.
