Gamethread #27: New Jersey Devils at Los Angeles Kings

New, comments

Tonight is the first game of the three-game trip through the state of California for the New Jersey Devils. The first opponent is the Los Angels Kings, who are in a state of disarray. This post is a gamethread to discuss some late night hockey.

Los Angeles Kings v New Jersey Devils
Kurtis McDermid (the King in this photo) isn’t likely going to play tonight. I just chose this picture because it shows the HEART and FIRE and GRIT and CAPITAL LETTERS of Jesper Bratt hitting a dude who towers over him.

The California trip is a three-game trip at the homes all three California-based NHL teams. The first stop is against the worst of the three this season. An organization seemingly in a state of disarray in addition to the Golden State. It features a guy you may even heard of. I think it begins with an I. Eh, he may just be a fourth-liner, so he can’t be that important.

The Matchup: The New Jersey Devils at the Los Angeles Kings (SBN Blog: Jewels from the Crown)

The Time: 10:30 PM ET

The Broadcast: TV - MSG+; Digital Audio - The “Devils Hockey Network.” A.K.A. Go to Radio.com or NHL.com for an audio feed.

The Song for the Evening: I never knew what it was really called, but one of the big trends in rock music in the early 2000s featured plenty of hi-hats and danceable beats. Indie-dance rock, I guess? I’ve seen post-punk revival, which I furrow my brow at. In any case, one of my favorite albums of this era was With Love and Squalor by We Are Scientists, which is a good representation of this sound. The band has moved on and made many more catchy rock tunes. In 2006, they released Crap Attack, a selection of b-sides, rarities, and covers. Tonight’s song, “History Repeats” did come out on With Love and Squalor but only on the vinyl release, so it made it to the compilation Crap Attack. I think it could have stood up on the main album.

The Rules: The rules remain the rules even when the game is on and you wondering if this song is about a relationship (likely) or being a fan (no, but it’s not totally far off somehow). Please keep your comments clean, legal (read: no streams, no links to streams, no asking for streams, no streams), and all about the games itself. Just as importantly, let’s respect each other. There’s no need for drama or being unwelcoming of your fellow Devils fan. This is a Gamethread, let’s focus on the game. Thank you for reading. Go Devils!
