Gamethread #38: New Jersey Devils vs. Vancouver Canucks

The year of 2018 ends with the New Jersey Devils hosting the Vancouver Canucks in an early afternoon game. Let’s hope the Devils end the year on a high note with a victory. Talk about the game as it happens in this post, a Gamethread.

NHL: Vancouver Canucks at New Jersey Devils
Hi-five if you won an NHL award in 2018!
Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

This is the final game of 2018 for Our Favorite Team. It was kind of up-and-down for them. More ups than downs, I’d say. It was a good year for me personally. Anyway.

The Matchup: The New Jersey Devils vs. the Vancouver Canucks (SBN Blog: Nucks Misconduct)

The Time: 1:00 PM ET

The Broadcast: TV - MSG+; Digital Audio - The “Devils Hockey Network.” A.K.A. Go to or for an audio feed.

The Song for the Day: SNFU was a great band. Yes, they’re somehow still kicking about but Mr. Chi Pig’s vocals have degraded to a point where it is kind of sad to hear them. Never Trouble Trouble Unless Trouble Troubles You was a disappointment largely because of that. Still, they carry a lot of weight in the punk rock scenes of Western Canada. Perhaps second only to D.O.A.? Your mileage may vary. Anyway, they’re from Edmonton, but they also spent a lot of time in Vancouver. For example, they recorded their third album, Better Than A Stick In The Eye, there. The production is, uh, not the best. But some of their best songs shine through it. This is one of the many that long time fans go back to many times, an emotional track amid some of the weirder/sillier ones: “Tears.”

The Rules: The rules remain the rules even when the game is on and 2018 is ending and you’re lamenting/looking forward to 2019. Please keep your comments clean, legal (read: no streams, no links to streams, no asking for streams, no streams), and all about the games itself. Just as importantly, let’s respect each other. There’s no need for drama or being unwelcoming of your fellow Devils fan. This is a Gamethread, let’s focus on the game. Thank you for reading. Go Devils!
