Binghamton found themselves shorthanded with eight penalties on the night but somehow managed to add a point to a three out of four possible weekend, as the Toronto Marlies were victorious in OT by a score of 3-2 at Scotiabank Arena on Sunday.
Devils netminder Eddie Lack would get stronger as the game wore on as he stopped 26 shots but Mason Marchment would score twice on the Swede, including the game winner for 1st Star honors.
Nathan Bastian and John Quenneville were the goal scores for the Devils as each recorded their fourth of the season. Bastian got a lucky bounce off the rebound from the post and planted the puck past Toronto netminder Eamon McAdam, who finished with 27 saves.
Binghamton broke a 1-1 tie as Marian Studenic fed JQ in front off an odd man rush for the marker in the middle frame. However, the Marlies tied it once again on a 5v3 advantage as Calle Rosen’s one-time blast landed up high, beyond Lack as Devils experienced some undisciplined play that led to them being shorthanded.
The Devils would get their chances during the three-on-three action, but would be denied highlighted on a kick save from McAdam to Ryan Schmelzer. Seconds later, Carl Grundstrom’s up ice pass found Marchment as his shot beat Lack for the game winner at 1:20 in overtime.

Post Game Notes
- Rooney and Ramage with the A’s.
- Binghamton had plenty of opportunities to put away those pesky Marlies but penalties didn’t help the cause with eight calls against. Have to stay out of the box with a combined 15 on the weekend compared to 8 for Toronto.
- I’ve noticed Lack got better as the game wore on, a trend I started to witness in the last few weeks. He was excellent when the pressure was on towards the end. His line reads 2-2-1-0, 3.91 GAA, 0.872 SV%.
- Shots ended tied at 29 a piece as the Marlies finished up with a three-in-three weekend and had just enough in the tank for the win. Game took place at parent club Leafs in front of 8091.
- BDevils currently sit in third place percentage points behind Cleveland in the North Division with an 8-7-3-0 record.
Three Stars
#1. Mason Marchment (2g), #2. Calle Rosen (1g, 1a), #3. Eamon McAdam (27 saves)
