Welcome to the third and final game of what I am calling the pre-preseason. The New Jersey Devils will play the young players of the Boston Bruins for a Monday lunch-time game.
The Time: 12:00 PM ET
The Broadcast: Streaming at the Devils’ official website.
The Matchup: The New Jersey Devils vs. the Boston Bruins (SBN Blog: Stanley Cup of Chowder)
The Last Game: On Saturday, the Devils played Pittsburgh and this went poorly. The Pens prospects made it rain goals on Ken Appleby in a 6-2 defeat of the Devils. Your scorers were Jesper Bratt and Blake Speers. John Quenneville left early due to an apparent puck to the face. Hopefully that is a minor issue.
The Previews: It’s still a prospect-only preseason game. There’s not much to preview. Whoever plays today doesn’t have an inside track on anything. The real competition begins next week when the real preseason starts. That said, Gerard does have five reasons why you should be excited for this three-game tourney. You should check those out.
The Devils Prospects to Know: Saturday’s game featured Will Butcher but not Nico Hischier. I’d expect to see the budding Swiss star get some action today. He’d be your biggest name. But do not sleep on the others in the lineup. We may yet see
The Bruins Prospects to Know: According to the Bruins’ website, the team held a rookie camp ahead of their three games. There are plenty of notable names on this roster such as Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson, Zach Senyshyn, Jack Studnicka, Charlie McAvoy, Jakub Zboril, and Long Beach, New Jersey’s own Connor Clifton.
The Goal: No injuries. Still the goal for this third game of this tourney.
The Song of the Afternoon: Since this is effectively a Gamethread, here’s a song. This is “Get It Away” by SS Decontrol, Boston hardcore legends. They were not Boston metal legends when they re-branded as SSD and wrote longer, not-so-frantic metal songs after this EP.
The Rules: As usual, keep it clean, respect your fellow Devils fan and wayward soul that has yet to admit their support of the Devils, and keep it relevant to the game.
Go Devils! No injuries!
