New Jersey Devils Sign Drew Stafford

One thing the Devils have needed to add this off-season is an experienced winger. They just added that man in Drew Stafford on a one-year, one-way contract.

Once the news of the loss of Travis Zajac for 4-6 months broke the need to add an experienced NHLer to the New Jersey Devils was a must. Today, the Devils signed winger Drew Stafford at a very nice $800k for one-year. He will wear the no. 18 jersey.

This is a great deal for New Jersey. Stafford is a big guy, he’ll just turn 32 in October and if he gets a significant number of games under his belt he can contribute to scoring. Stafford has 400 points in 725 NHL games, but the 2016-17 wasn’t a great season for Stafford, splitting time between Winnipeg and Boston he put up 21 points plus 2 playoff goals as the Bruins were eliminated by Ottawa in the first round. Stafford came close 40 points in 2015-16 but if he doesn’t produce in New Jersey he could potentially be a great help and someone to look to for the kids looking to make the jump to the NHL this year. With the potential of bringing some scoring help plus his experience Drew is definitely worth the $800k punt.
