Following on from yesterday’s announcement of the Blandisi, Mueller and Wedgewood contracts the New Jersey Devils announced another five new deals today. One-year two-way at $660k for Blake Coleman and Stefan Noesen, two-years two-way $667k AAV for Blake Pietila, and one-year two-way $650k for Ben Thomson and Kevin Rooney. Leaving Damon Severson as the last remaining RFA for the Devils to sign.
Stefan Noesen - one-year, two-way, $660k
Stefan Noesen played 32 games for the Devils in the NHL last season after being claimed off waivers on January 25th. In his most career NHL games in a season he chipped in with 6G-2A mostly playing a 3rd line role with Pavel Zacha and Jacob Josefson.
Blake Coleman - one-year, two-way, $660k
The second most NHL experienced player signed today taking to the ice 23 times last season. Blake Coleman only contributed two points in the form of a goal and one assist but showed more offensive capability in Albany with 19G-20A in 52 games.
Blake Pietila - two-years, two-way, $667k AAV
Blake Pietila’s deal works out at $660k in year one and $675k in year two. Pietila has two seasons under his belt with the Devils with a goal and an assist in 7 games in 2015-16 and just the one assist in his 10 games in 2016-17. Another contract for the AHL level, Blake had 17G-14A in 49 games in Albany last season.
Ben Thomson - one-year, two-way, $650k
Ben Thomson was pointless in three games in his third pro season and debut NHL season. Thomson has played 212 games in his three seasons in the AHL putting up 20G-24A and 3G-3A in 9 playoff games.
Kevin Rooney - one-year, two-way, $650k
Kevin Rooney played his second professional season last year playing in four NHL games for the Devils and 72 games for Albany, scoring 13 goals and 8 assists plus 1 goal in his four Calder Cup playoff games.
Predominantly AHL contracts. Stefan Noesen should be on the NHL roster in October. Can you see Pietila, Coleman, Thomson and Rooney playing any kind of role this coming season? Or just as injury call-ups if anything?
