What 2 Watch 4: Landmarks for Devils Players in the Final 3 Games.

The Devils are not having a great year, but there are some landmarks and goals we could reach. I run through a few by player.

No prologue this time. Straight to what to watch for. This was written before the Kinkaidathon against Philly yesterday. Though not much changed because almost no one registered a stat.

Damon Severson is on the verge of 30 assists which no one on the roster did in the last two years. He would join Taylor Hall as the breakers of that streak this year. It would also be his personal record in both raw numbers and points per game. He also is a -28 as of this writing which is the lowest for a Devil since 1987 when Craig Wolanin did it. However, -26 would only be the lowest since Jordin Tootoo last year. His career -49 ranks 431st out of 479 Devils. He also has the lowest of any Devil since I’ve been alive (1992).

Pavel Zacha has 24 points which is the most for a rookie since Eric Gelinas had 29 in 2013-14. If he tops it, it will be the highest since Henrique. Also his 24 points are two behind Jimmy Vesey. That’s not a landmark other than that they are both rookies and I want so badly for Zacha to be better.

Speak of the Devil (pun intended) Adam Henrique is on the verge of 40 points. If he gets it, he will have gotten 40 points in 5 seasons by age 26. The only other Devils to do so were Kirk Muller (7), Scott Gomez (6), Patrik Elias (5), John MacLean (5), Petr Sykora (5), and Pat Verbeek (5). No Devil has done that since Gomez. Also, 3 more points will make him tied with Jason Arnott for 25th in franchise history.

Andy Greene has 157 assists with the Devils which is tied with John Madden for 21st all time on the Devils. One more passes Madden, two more tiwe Joe Cirella for 20th, three more ties him with Brian Gionta and Patrik Sundstrom for 18th all-time.

If Travis Zajac gets a PP goal, he will pass Aaron Broten for 10th in franchise history. He is also 6 Faceoff wins behind Toews this year and 8 behind Kopitar. If he catches them he will get to 6th in the league. Zajac has 15 primary assists at even strength which is tied with Taylor Hall for 4th since Corsica started tracking. If either of them gets two more, they will join Elias (2012) and Gionta (2009) for 2nd in Corsica’s records.

And about Taylor Hall — what records are there for us to track for the best player on the team. He is averaging 0.75. Which ranks him top 50 in franchise history among age-25-or-younger. He can shoot up that list with a few more points and fall out completely with bad performances. And if he can clear 0.77 it looks like he’ll land in the top 50 in the NHL this season — a distinction no other current Devil has. Ugh. He is 4 scoring chances away from ascending to 7th in Corsicas records (2007 and on). His 86 is nowhere near Zach Parise’s high mark of 159. He is the highest scoring 25-or-younger player per game since Zach Parise and he’s in the top 50 in franchise history.

EDIT: Recently discovered Ben Lovejoy’s 145 blocks are 25th in the NHL — which is notable of its own merit, but also because he is only 3 behind the guy he replaced.

That’s everything interesting I could find. I honestly expected there to be more when I thought of the idea for this article, but between injuries, roster turnover, and just flat-out underwhelming performance, there was not much to point to.

Oh that just gave me an idea. Apparently we are in a 4-way tie for 3rd in franchise history in number of players with at least 5 games played. If Kapla gets three more, we ascend to a tie for second with the 1984 team. If Kevin Rooney sneaks in another game too, that will put make us the most in Devils history, behind only the Colorado Rockies in franchise history.

EDIT: After Ben Thompson’s debut, we have no played 36 different players, One more and we’ll tie last year’s squad for most skaters with 1 game played.

Okay now that’s it. Sorry this was exactly as lame as you feared it might be.
