Game Preview: Flyers at Devils

After getting shut out, the Devils look to play harder against the Flyers on this April the 4th.

The Matchup: The Philadelphia Flyers (38-32-8 SBN; Broad Street Hockey) vs. the New Jersey Devils (27-37-14)

The Time: 7:00 PM EST

The Last Devils Game: The Devils lost to the Flyers 3-0 on the 1st of April. Cory Schneider had himself a busy day, making 38 saves on 41 shots. The Flyers goaltenders, Michael Neuvirth (Who thankfully is fine after a scary injury) and Anthony Stolarz combined to make 27 saves. The Flyers goals were scored by Brayden Schenn, Colin McDonald, and Jordan Weal. John wrote a recap here.

The Last Flyers Game: The Flyers fell 4-3 to the Rangers yesterday. Anthony Stolarz made 20 saves on 24 shots, and King Henrik made 20 saves on 23 shots. Valterri Filppula started off the scoring for the Flyers, with a nice backhand move which snuck by Lundqvist. Mike Zibanejad then responded on the power play, with a nice shot from the point. Brendan Smith scored on a backhand to make it 2-1, before Lindberg scored on his own rebound to make it 3-1. Chris Kreider then scored on a deflection to make it 4-1. Schenn and Filppula scored for the Flyers to bring it to 4-3, but that was all as the Flyers lost 4-3.

The Goal: All I can say is... play better? The Devils have played terribly over these past few weeks, so all I want to see is a better performance, accompanied by a hard-working regulation loss. At this point, I feel like a loss is what most Devils fans should want at this point, regardless of the fact that it’s the Flyers.

Recent Devil News: John Quenneville was sent down to the AHL to try to help the Albany Devils in their playoff race.

Dalton Sprout was suspended for two games for his interference penalty on Radko Gudas. Gudas escaped without disciplinary action. Your call on whether it’s fair or not.

Miles Wood may be injured, which could lead to another forward getting called up.

Jacob Josefson could play.

Starting Goaltenders: I would expect Schneider to start for the Devils, although the Flyers goalie situation is a bit more tender. Steve Mason is ill, Anthony Stolarz played yesterday, and Michael Neuvirth was just recently discharged from the hospital. If I have to make a guess, I’ll go with Stolarz.

Short Preview: Because the Devils played the Flyers already. For more information on the players, read the other one here.
