The New Jersey Devils have issued a press release announcing they will celebrate Pride Night on February 27th against the Montreal Canadiens. The game will kick off NHL’s Pride Week and represents the league’s effort for inclusivity and continue the Hockey is For Everyone movement.
Pride Week Information
The NHL has launched an initiative to raise awareness for the LGBTQ community and Pride Week demonstrates the league’s commitment to supporting, raising awareness and hopefully gathering funds to bring awareness to issues that the LGBTQ community is facing. A few weeks ago the NHL named a Pride Ambassador for each team, Andy Greene being the Devils’ representative. Pride Night and the NHL’s entire initiative is a joint project with the You Can Play Project, an organization dedicated to support of LGBTQ athletes.
In addition to the You Can Play Project, the team is partnering with the Newark Gay Pride and the Essex County RAIN Foundation. Representing Newark Gay Pride, Sharronda Wheeler will be a special guest along with David Farber with You Can Play at a networking event. Furthermore, the team and Prudential Center will be offering special merchandise, auctioning off memorabilia, and selling Pride Shirts in the Devils’ Den the night of the event with some proceeds going towards
