New Jersey Devils Prospect Update: 10/24/17

Week 3 of the 2017-18 prospect update saw the Devils defense prospects put up plenty of offense, the goaltenders put up Quality Starts, and numerous players get selected for the Canada - Russia Superseries in November.

The third week of the 2017-18 prospect update is here. Check out how the Devils prospects from the CHL, NCAA, and European leagues are performing in the stats and recap below.

Before going into the week Jocktan Chainey just had, I should note that the QMJHL made a scoring change from his game against Cape Breton on 10/14, switching an even primary assist to a goal. Over the course of 4 games this past week, Chainey put up 3 assists, +1, 2 PIM, and 4 shots. He was also named to the QMJHL team for the 2017 Canada - Russia Series that pits CHL teams against a U20 Russia side. The QMJHL will take on Russia on 11/14 and 11/16.

Marian Studenic had a goal, +1, and 4 shots in 2 games last week. He was named first star in Hamilton's win against Ottawa on Sunday as he put on a strong two-way display.

Evan Cormier had a fine week for himself despite going 1-1. He made 28 saves on 30 shots in a loss to Guelph on Saturday. He followed that up the next night by saving 25 of 27 shots in a victory against Peterborough.

Colby Sissons had a primary PP assist in both games Swift Current played last week. Overall, he finished the week with those 2 assists, -1, and 7 shots. Sissons is currently on a 4 game point streak with a goal and 3 assists.

Nikita Popugaev found himself with a demotion to the 4th line for Prince George as he struggles to produce. In 3 games last week he had an even rating and 7 shots. He now hasn't had a point in 5 straight games. It seems that Popugaev has struggled to find his form since his trade from Moose Jaw to Prince George as he had a 0.89 Pts/GP in 110 games for Moose Jaw while just a 0.57 Pts/GP for Prince George despite having top 6 opportunities with both teams.

Brett Seney and Merrimack took on Joey Anderson and Minnesota Duluth this past weekend. Brett Seney had 2 goals, an assist, +1, and 3 shots as the teams tied on Friday. Joey Anderson had a goal and 6 shots in that game. Seney had a shot and 4 PIM in the Saturday night game that UMD won. Joey Anderson had an assist, +1, and 2 shots in that game. I should note that Anderson has continued to get some experience playing LW on the top line despite being a natural RW.

JD Dudek had a goal, -1, 2 PIM, and 6 shots across 2 games for Boston College against St. Cloud State.

Northeastern lost both of their games over the weekend but Jeremy Davies did his part. The puck moving defenseman finished with 4 assists, -1, and 5 shots.

Reilly Walsh had 2 PP goals, +1, and 4 shots in Harvard's 7-2 exhibition win over the USNTDP U18 team.

Matt Hellickson was a +1 over the course of 2 games for Notre Dame last weekend against Sacred Heart.

Yegor Rykov had a productive week for SKA with an assist, +1, 2 PIM, 4 shots, and 2 blocks while averaging over 13 minutes per game across 3 games.

Mikhail Maltsev played one game for SKA-Neva of the VHL (second tier) last week. He had 2 shots, won 11/20 faceoffs, and played 23:19. Maltsev along with fellow Devils prospect, Yegor Zaitsev, were named to the extended roster for Russia's U20 team for the Canada - Russia Series. Here's a link to the schedule for the series that will run from 11/6 to 11/16.

Yegor Zaitsev had an even rating, 4 PIM, and a shot while averaging around 10 minutes per game across 3 games for Dynamo Moscow last week.

Fabian Zetterlund played sparingly across 3 games for Farjestads BK, managing a shot in 8+ minutes of total ice time. He was named to Sweden's U20 entry at a 4-Nations Tournament in Russia from 11/8 to 11/10.

Aarne Talvitie didn't play in any Jr. A SM-liiga games over the past week. I haven't been able to find anything on him from the past week but I imagine it could've just been a break in the schedule or some other commitment.

Gilles Senn made 26 saves on 27 shots in a 4-1 HC Davos win over EHC Koten on Friday.
