Blake Speers and Michael McLeod earned Silver Medals at the WJC. Speers was a -1 with 1 shot in 11:24 in the semifinal match against Sweden. He finished the championship match with an even rating with a shot in 14:53. Speers earned plenty of praise for his workmanlike attitude and defensive efforts at even strength and on the PK throughout the tournament. McLeod had an even rating in 1:08 against Sweden in the semifinal match. He had an assist with an even rating in 2:15 against the US in the championship match. He hardly saw the ice in Canada's final 3 games but did look good in the limited role he had. Surely, he'll have a bigger role next year.
Joey Anderson earned a Gold Medal as a member of the US team. He had an assist, +1, and a shot in 16:52 in the semifinal against Russia. He had an even rating and 3 shots in 24:35 of the championship match against Canada. Anderson thrived as a complimentary piece on the top line, able to create plays in the offensive zone while being a key defensive member of the team. Here's what Chris Peters of The United States of Hockey had to say on Anderson:
While his role somewhat fluctuated throughout the tournament, Anderson found a home on the first line with Keller and White. His speed allowed him to keep up with those two and his two-way skills made that line more defensively sound. Anderson ended up seeing his role peak in the gold-medal game, where he was getting a regular shift and even ended up as the forward with the most ice time in overtime.
Yegor Rykov earned a Bronze Medal as a member of the Russian team. Rykov was a +1 with 2 shots in 25:42 in the semifinal match against the US. He had an assist with an even rating in 21:15 of the 3rd place match against Sweden. He was named a Top 3 Player for Russia due to his strong two-way game and ability to log a ton of minutes. He finished 2nd in scoring among defensemen with 7 points and was tied for the most assists with 6.

Another New Guy: Due to a shortage of available defensemen, the ADevils signed 23 year old Jacob MacDonald to a PTO. The 6'0, 208 lbs. defender spent 4 seasons with Cornell University from 2011-15, appearing in 104 games with 4 goals, 17 assists, +1, and 53 PIM. He's spent parts of the last 3 seasons with Elmira and Toledo in the ECHL, totaling 110 games with 25 goals, 41 assists, +21, and 60 PIM.
Goodbye (Again): In last week's post I welcomed Reid Boucher back to the organization. As everyone knows by now, the Devils attempted to get him through waivers again and to Albany but he was claimed by the Canucks. Best of luck to him with his new organization.
Coming Up: Albany will take on Springfield tomorrow and Friday. They will also take on Binghamton on Saturday.

Prospect of the Week
Nathan Bastian earns this week's honors after putting up 2 goals, 3 assists, +5, and 11 shots in 3 games for Mississauga. He is currently on a 6 game point streak with 2 goals and 8 assists during that stretch.
ADevil of the Week
Blake Coleman gets this week's honors after putting up 3 goals, 2 assists, +1, 12 shots, and 7 PIM in 3 games for Albany last week. He's now up to 3rd on the ADevils in scoring and averaging 2.18 shots per game. It will be interesting to see if he can turn this hot play into a call up with the big club.
