I wanted to start with an official “Hello!” to all the readers of All About the Jersey. I am proudly one of the new writers chosen to provide content for you all. As you can already assume, I will be covering the news. However, I am going to use a new format for the news to hopefully promote more discussion and activity within our community.
Onto the Devils news:
THE 23 MINUTES THAT SHOOK THE HOCKEY WORLD - Elliotte Friedman, Sportsnet
I’m gonna start with a whopper, but trust me, it is well worth the read. Our own GM said it best:
It is an almost surreal account of nearly every person involved in that fateful day. It was the blockbuster that we’ve been waiting for since Lou. We just didn’t know what we started.
John Tortorella struggling with No. 1 goalie decision - Nicholas J. Cotsonika, NHL
Tortorella is stuck between a rock and a hard place and... some other immovable object that we’ll call a Cory Schneider. Team USA has 3 stud goalies to choose from on the roster and one of them is our own, highly touted , Cory Schneider. What a choice it is, with two-time cup winner Quick, or two game 7 shutouts Bishop, or with the best save % of the three at a career .925 Schneider. I know our pick, but what does Torts have to say?
Devils' Kyle Palmieri focused for World Cup opportunity - Chris Ryan, NJ.com
Kyle is feeling comfortable training for the World Cup with coach Hynes and teammate Cory Schneider around. He’s ready to open up the year playing against this years top competition.
SCHNEIDER RAVES ABOUT DEVILS' BUSY OFFSEASON - Devils.nhl.com
Cory had some thought’s about all the off season moves here as well. He also shared his outlook on the upcoming season:
I feel he’s about on par with everyone’s expectations for the season from what I have noticed in the comments.
And your news from the hockey world:
Joe Pavelski named Team USA captain - NHL.com
Alex Ovechkin named Team Russia captain - NHL.com
Congrats to all the captains named in this years World Cup of Hockey.
Team Russia remembers plane crash victims - NHL.com
A powerful moment from Team Russia. They held a moment of silence for those that passed 5 years ago. I remember the day fairly well, I had a hockey practice that night and it was the talk of the locker room. I remember looking through the roster to find any names I may recognize from the NHL. Of course, a few of our own stuck out, Karel Rachůnek and Alexander Vasyunov. I think Ovechkin had a strong sentiment:
Please let me know what you think of the new format, any and all feedback is welcome. As always discuss these and any hockey related news in the comments below.
Thanks for being a part of my first post!
