Taylor Hall Out 3-4 Weeks

The Devils announced Wednesday their points leader Taylor Hall will miss approximately 3-4 weeks with a meniscus tear. According to the release from the team, Hall underwent successful surgery Wednesday afternoon and was placed on Injured Reserve.

While information is limited, Hall is likely to see a return to the ice around Christmas time, if not a week or so sooner. Until then, the offense will need to step up.

The Fallout

Losing a player of Hall’s caliber is never taken lightly, regardless of a teams supposed depth. New Jersey, who currently sits at 9-3-3 will be without their best offensive player for what could be the next month. In their first game without Hall, the 2-1 OT win against the Dallas Stars, the team played what could be argued their most complete game of the season.

Even with the hard-fought win on Tuesday, the teams’s left-wing depth is a concern. Without Michael Cammalleri and Taylor Hall the left side consists of Beau Bennett, Pavel Zacha, Reid Boucher and Sergey Kalinin. While there is certainly a hole, it will be a test to see who will step up and if this team can truly compete without their star.

Based on position and opportunity, Beau Bennett and Pavel Zacha seem like prime beneficiaries to step up. Even though the points haven’t been there for Bennett, he has been very good for the team and will likely stay alongside Zajac for the time being.
