According to a Fire & Ice post by Andrew Gross, Devils goalie Scott Wedgewood will be placed on waivers today.
Devils say G Scott Wedgewood will be placed on waivers today so they can try to re-assign him to Albany (AHL).

If he makes it through waivers, he’ll be back with the Albany Devils. This is no sure thing, however, as he put up a good (albeit brief) performance in NJ last season and there are teams on the hunt for NHL-capable backup goaltenders. Wedgewood went 2-1-1 with a 1.25 GAA and .957 SV% in his four NHL games during 2015-16.
Tough Call, But It’s Kinkaid’s Job for Now
This decision also confirms the Devils have chosen Keith Kinkaid to serve as Cory Schneider’s backup this season. Last season, Kinkaid went 9-9-0 with a 2.81 GAA and .904 SV% for New Jersey.
Kinkaid had an inconsistent season last year, made particularly obvious by being named the NHL’s third star of the week in March, only to give up 13 goals in just 3 games the following week.
Your Take
One of the Devils’ many difficult training camp decisions is complete. Kinkaid will be the Devils’ backup goaltender, and Wedgewood will either return to Albany or find a new home elsewhere.
Do you like the decision to go through Kinkaid? Think Wedgewood will make it through waivers? If he does, think he’ll be back in New Jersey this season?
And since John brought this up in a tweet... if you’d rather we’d have traded Wedgewood, what would you expect back in return?
