Welcome to the second day of the NHL Draft. The New Jersey Devils made their choice in the first round. They picked Pavel Zacha. Here's my post on that selection. They also traded the 41st overall pick - a second rounder this season - and a 2016 pick for Kyle Palmieri. Here's my post on that move.
As important of a decision that was, this is where the re-build also takes place. Being able to identify players in the second, third, and later rounds will not only speed up the process, but could make the organization stronger overall for years to come. The New Jersey Devils have an early picks in the second round; that selection could prove as crucial as what they did in the first round.
Speed will be the word because the second day of the NHL Draft flies by. After an extended experience where all teams selecting go up to the podium, a player most likely appears, pictures are taken, and repeats throughout the first round, this is all business. Picks can and will be made quickly, only minutes apart at times.
Whereas the first round commanded prime time, the second day will begin at 10 AM EDT. It should end early in the afternoon, given past drafts.
Whereas the first round commanded time on NBCSN, Sportsnet, and TVA Sports, the second through seventh rounds will be aired on the NHL Network and TVA Sports. And the picks themselves may not be announced, just another name on a graphic crawling across the screen. So you may want to stay on top of the Draft Tracker at NHL.com and Twitter for the selections as they come out.
Whereas the first round featured one pick by the Devils - sixth overall, the Devils will use the rest of them today. The second round pick should command the most interest. Barring any trades, they still have the 36th overall pick - also known as the sixth pick in the second round. They will also pick sixth in the third, fourth, and sixth rounds, which are the 67th, 97th, and 157th overall picks. The Devils do not have a fifth or seventh rounder right now.
We will do our best to get posts up about the selections as soon as possible. Again, the day goes fast so all we can do is try. Among out 41 draft profiles, we did include potential second day draft picks. So check those out in the meantime. Maybe we got lucky and successfully identified one. In the meantime, please discuss all of the activities during the second day of the 2015 NHL Draft in the comments. Talk about what the Devils do, what they should've done, what other teams have done, and anything else involving the second day of the draft. All site rules apply, as usual. Thank you for reading.
