The Devils have until August 15 to sign Blake Coleman and Blake Pietila. Neither signed an ATO with Albany but that is no reason to worry. Coleman seems committed to finishing his degree now rather than having to do it in the summer. Lou Lamoriello mentioned to Tom Gulitti that the team is going to try to sign him. Here is a YouTube video of Coleman's career highlights at Miami.

Blake Pietila's thigh injury is going to be examined by the Devils team doctors according to Rich Chere and he would've been unable to play in Albany.

Joey Dudek made one last appearance for Chicago, being held without a point or shot, before being scratched for the final 2 games. It appears that he took warm ups but I suppose they were letting some of the veterans play their final junior games as Chicago had already been eliminated. The Chicago Steel blog, All for One, has this interview with him. It gives some insight into his high school hockey days and the difference between living in Dubuque and Chicago.

Albany lost 2 out of 3 games last week and currently sit in 10th place in the Eastern Conference with 79 points, 4 points behind 8th place Portland and 9th place Springfield. Albany has an all situation PDO of 99.63% and a 3 game average of 96.07%. Albany's PP was 2/9 last week and is at 18.43% for the season. Their PK was 12/13 last week and is now up to 82.87% on the season.

Injury Update: Kelly Zajac remains sidelined for the rest of the season. Joe Whitney and David Wohlberg both returned to the line up after missing time last week. It appears that Graham Black picked up some sort of knock as he didn't play in the Devils last 3 games.

Transactions: The ADevils signed Brandon Baddock to an ATO on 4/7 as his WHL season has ended. Raman Hrabarenka and Seth Helgeson were called up to New Jersey on 4/8 and sent back down on 4/10. Reid Boucher and Stefan Matteau were returned to Albany on 4/12.

Alive...Barely: Albany can be eliminated with a regulation loss or Portland victory.

Friday 4/10: Albany lost to Binghamton 6-3. Offensive leaders for Albany included Tim Sestito with a goal and an assist, Joe Whitney with 3 assists, and Brandon Burlon with 2 assists. The other goal scorers for Albany were Mike Sislo and Joe Faust. Sestito, Paul Thompson, Chris McKelvie, and Mike Sislo had 4 shots each as Albany outshot Binghamton 36-28. Scott Wedgewood made 22 saves on 27 shots. Albany went 0/1 on the PP and 2/2 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet and highlights:

Saturday 4/11: Albany lost to Hartford 2-1. Raman Hrabarenka had the Devils goal with Darcy Zajac and Seth Helgeson picking up the assists. Joe Whitney had 4 shots as the Devils outshot the Wolf Pack 26-23. Scott Clemmensen made 21 saves on 23 shots. Albany went 0/3 on the PP and 5/5 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet and highlights:

Sunday 4/12: Albany defeated Worcester 3-2. Reid Boucher, Paul Thompson, and Stefan Matteau (EN) scored for the Devils. Matt Lorito, Raman Hrabarenka, Joe Whitney, Reece Scarlett, and Dan Kelly picked up an assist each. Thomspon and Mike Sislo had 4 shots each as Albany outshot Worcester 30-28. Scott Wedgewood made 26 saves on 28 shots. Albany went 2/5 on the PP and 5/6 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet and highlights:

Setting the Record: Paul Thompson's 33 goals gives him the franchise single season goal scoring record. Lou Lamoriello has mentioned multiple times that he plans on signing Thompson to a NHL contract for next season so hopefully that happens this summer.

A Productive Year: Raman Hrabarenka's 0.591 points per game is above the 75th percentile for the AHL according to Quant Hockey, which is nice for a defenseman. His goals per game of 0.204 is just below the 75th percentile. I liked the little I saw of him in his NHL debut (passing, joining the rush on one occasion) and would like to see more from him in the future to figure out just what he is.

Coming Up: Albany finishes the season with 3 games this week. Tomorrow they take on Syracuse as they desperately try to keep their playoff hopes alive. They play Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday and close things out against Hartford on Saturday.

Myles Bell and Evansville missed the playoffs and actually finished as the worst team in the ECHL. Bell had 8 goals and 6 assists after his first 17 games but just 2 goals and 3 assists in his final 24 games. He finished his first professional season on the injured reserve and it remains a question as to whether the Devils will sign him to another AHL deal next year.

Orlando finished in 6th place in the Eastern Conference. Mike Keenan and Ben Johnson continued to spend time in Albany. Eric Baier had an even rating and 5 shots in 2 games for Orlando before being rested for the season finale. Alexandre Carrier played 2 games for Orlando and picked up 7 penalty minutes. Maxime Clermont made a final appearance allowing 5 goals on 35 shots. He will be the back up goalie in the playoffs.

Prospect of the Week

As mentioned above, Joseph Blandisi is crushing it in the playoffs right now. He has 5 goals and 6 assists after 6 games and is on a 16 game scoring streak dating back to the regular season. He is currently tied for 7th in the OHL in playoff points having played a game or two less than those above him.

ADevil of the Week

Joe Whitney picked up this week's honors with 4 primary assists in 3 games for Albany. He has 2 goals and 7 assists over his last 6 games. Whitney is currently tied for the team lead in points, leads the team in assists, and is 2nd in primary points, goals created, goals created per game, even strength goals created, and is tied for the lead in even strength goals created per game. According to Quant Hockey, his points per game of 0.841 is above the 95th percentile and his goals per game of 0.318 is just above the 90th percentile.

Your Take

Would you like to see a bit more production out of Kujawinski? How do you feel about Blandisi's hot play continuing over to the playoffs? Do you think Quenneville is finally turning a corner? Perhaps he is finally healthy? What do you think of Dudek's USHL season? Do you think Joe Whitney and Paul Thompson can become more than just career minor leaguers, or are they to use a baseball term, classic AAAA players?
