Today, the 1995 Stanley Cup Red-White Alumni Game will take place at the AmeriHealth Pavilion. The game will feature many New Jersey Devils players from that Cup winning team. Legends like Martin Brodeur, Scott Stevens, Scott Niedermayer, and Ken Daneyko will be there. So will Claude Lemieux, Bobby Holik, John MacLean, Bruce Driver, Chris Terreri, and Tommy Albelin. The game also includes Billy Guerin, Valeri Zelepukin, Shawn Chambers, Brian Rolston, Tom Chorske, Chris McAlpine, Mike Peluso, Bobby Carpenter, and New Jersey's own Jim Dowd. Jacques Lemaire and Larry Robinson will be coaches. It's a star-studded affair, so to speak; I think the only significant players missing from the 1995 team were Stephane Richer and Neal Broten.
For those of you fast enough to get tickets, then you're already at the AmeriHealth Pavilion. For the rest of us, the New Jersey Devils will be streaming the game live at this website. Matt Loughlin and Chico Resch will be calling the game. The stream will start at 3:45 PM EST with player introductions. The game will be at 4 PM EST. Since there's a break between games, it'll be a fun diversion. A late afternoon of nostalgia for fans who remember that 1995 Cup run. A glimpse into who these players were for those who only heard about that first Stanley Cup winning team in franchise history.
So please feel free to use the comments of this post to discuss the Alumni game. Mention that thing Chico just said. Talk about that great and maybe pre-planned play that happened. Reminisce about these players that brought so much joy to the Devils fans all around the world. All rules apply as usual. Enjoy the game.
