Ryan Kujawinski continues to be a point per game player for North Bay through 31 games. He only had an assist over 3 games last week but that came at the end of a 13 point, 8 game scoring streak. Joseph Blandisi added 3 goals and 2 assists in 3 games last week. He's currently on a 8 game scoring streak with 5 goals and 8 assists during that stretch. He still leads the OHL in goals and SH goals.

John Quenneville barely played last week as he got into a fight 45 seconds into Brandon's game against Moose Jaw and was thrown out under the "staged fight" rule. He took on the player that had recently injured him, Jesse Shynkaruk. Unfortunately for Quenneville, this fight would result in an "upper body" injury and he has since been sidelined. Here's a video of the fight.

Ryan Rehill had an assist, +4 rating, and 9 PIM over 3 games for Kamloops as they desperately try to grab onto the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Brandon Baddock added a goal and 2 assists over 3 games for Edmonton.

Anthony Brodeur had a decent relief appearance against his old club, Gatineau, on Friday as he stopped 17 of 18 shots. On Sunday he got lit up for 5 goals on 16 shots and was pulled after 37 minutes. Drummondville has already been eliminated from playoff contention.

Blake Coleman helped Miami to a 2-1 series win over Western Michigan in the NCHC Quaterfinals. They will face Nolan Zajac's Denver team in the next round. Like last year, Coleman came up clutch for Miami with 4 goals and 4 assists in the 3 game series. More on him later.

Blake Pietila and Michigan Tech are moving on to the WCHA Final Five after a 2-0 series win against Alabama Huntsville. They will take on Bowling Green. Pietila had an even rating with 9 shots over the 2 games. He has just 2 goals over his last 11 games. He was named to the All-WCHA Third Team.

Alexander Kerfoot returned from an injury to help Harvard to a dramatic 2-1 series win over Yale in the ECAC Quaterfinals. He had a goal and 2 assists in the series but most importantly, assisted on the series winning goal in double overtime of the final game. He's just over a point per game for the season and continues to show that when healthy, he will produce.

Steve Santini and Boston College were upset by Vermont 2-1 in the Hockey East Quaterfinals. Santini was a -1 with 3 shots and 4 blocks. The good news is that BC is high enough in the Pairwise rankings and will still be selected for the NCAA Tournament.

Joshua Jacobs and Michigan State concluded their regular season with a weekend split against Michigan. Jacobs added an assist, -1, and 5 blocks. MSU will be the #2 seed for the Big Ten Tournament and will face the winner of Michigan vs. Wisconsin. Jacobs was also named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team alongside 2015 standout draft prospect, Zach Werenski from Michigan.

Albany earned 3 points in as many games last week, mostly due to strong goaltending. Albany currently sits in 12th place in the Eastern Conference with 65 points, 8 back of 8th place Springfield. The ADevils have an all situation PDO of 99.35% and 100.31% for last week. What really has hurt them is that they are shooting just 4.27% with 7 goals over their last 5 games. Albany's PP is now down to 17.50% and is 2/27 (7.41%) over their last 7 games. Their PK is at an even 81% now.

Injury Update: Kelly Zajac returned to the line up but only played in one game as he makes his way back from a nagging lower body injury.

Suspension Update: Cam Janssen sat out all 3 games and his suspension is now over.

Transactions: Albany signed F Matt Lorito to an ATO on Friday. They returned RW Alexandre Carrier to Orlando (ECHL) yesterday.

The New Guy: The Devils signed 2014 prospect camp alum, F Matt Lorito to a tryout contract for the remainder of the season. The 24 year old is listed at 5'9, 180 lbs. and is a left handed shot. He served as an alternate captain for Brown his junior year and as the captain his senior year. He was around a point per game his sophomore and junior seasons and finished his college career with a 0.89 points per game mark. Best case scenario for him seems to be turning into another Joe Whitney, an undersized solid AHL player, though I think that may be reaching a bit. Still good for him to earn himself this oppurtunity.

Friday 3/13: Albany defeated Worcester 3-2. Darcy Zajac and Rod Pelley had a goal and an assist each. Paul Thompson added the other goal. Brandon Burlon, Tim Sestito, and Corbin McPherson picked up an assist each. McPherson had a team high 5 shots, followed by Joe Whitney and Reid Boucher with 4 each as Albany outshot Worcester 34-29. Scott Clemmensen made 27 saves on 29 shots. Albany went 0/4 on the PP and 4/4 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet and highlights:

Saturday 3/14: Albany lost to Syracuse 2-1. Raman Hrabarenka had the Devils goal with David Wohlberg and Ben Thomson picking up the assists. Joe Whitney picked up a match penalty for cross-checking and the ensuing PP for Syracuse led to the first goal of the game. Reece Scarlett had 5 shots as the Devils outshot the Crunch 34-23. Sunday 3/15: Albany suffered a 1-0 shootout loss to Springfield. Stefan Matteau had 6 shots followed by Reid Boucher and Joe Faust with 4 each as the Devils and Falcons each put up 34. Scott Wedgewood stopped all 33 shots he faced but was unable to get a save in the shootout, surrending 2 goals. Paul Thompson and Mike Sislo were held to no goals in the shootout. Will the Real Reid Boucher Please Stand Up?: It's been a down year for Boucher but I think you could argue that his 2013-14 season may have been a bit deceptive. Last year, Boucher put up 22 goals, a 15.07 SH%, and 2.61 SH/GP in 56 games. This year he has 13 goals, an 8.50 SH%, and 2.68 SH/GP in 57 games. Obviously his SH% last year was inflated and this year it seems about right, perhaps slightly below where it should be. It's interesting that he's still getting the same amount of shots per game. Is he having bad luck this year? Is he not getting the same quality of chances this year? It's too bad the AHL doesn't have shot location data.

Coming Up: Albany takes on Norfolk tomorrow, again on Saturday, and then Hartford on Sunday.

Myles Bell continues to have a tough year, with just a goal over his last 8 games. The good news is that he's still getting his shots as he had 19 over 4 games last week.

Eric Baier had a goal, +2 rating, and 8 shots in 4 games for Orlando last week. Mike Keenan added 3 assists in 4 games for Orlando last week. Ben Johnson had 2 assists over 3 games for Orlando.

Maxime Clermont is on a good run of form for Orlando with a .972 SV% and 2 shutouts in 5 starts this month.

Prospect of the Week

Blake Coleman is the easy choice for prospect of the week after notching 4 goals and 4 assists in a 3 game series to help Miami over Western Michigan. You can see three of his goals on YouTube: going to the front of the net in game 1his "Superman" goal in game 1, and another goal by going to the front of the net in game 2. He is currently on a 4 game scoring streak with 5 goals and 4 assists during that time. He ranks 2nd in the country in FO% at 60.9%. Coleman has been a thorn in Western Michigan's side this season as he has 6 goals and 7 assists in 7 games against them.

ADevil of the Week

Scott Wedgewood's pro career hasn't gone well but like this past week, every now and then he has flashes of strong play. Last week in 2 starts he stopped 54 of 55 shots and earned a shutout. Of course the performance were wasted by a slumping offense but it's still nice to see from him.
