In a press release on Thursday, the New Jersey Devils have announced "The Salute", the statue to be erected in honor of the Devils' long-time goaltender Martin Brodeur, will also serve as a time capsule. The statue will be unveiled in February on Championship Plaza, located in front of the the Prudential Center.
The New Jersey Devils and Prudential Center announced today that the team will hold a contest offering a limited number of fans the opportunity to place their favorite piece of Martin Brodeur memorabilia in the statue of the goaltender that will stand on Championship Plaza. The statue, named "The Salute" after the iconic photo of Brodeur holding his stick in the air at his last game, will be unveiled as part of the four-day celebration of Brodeur, presented by Prudential, before his No. 30 jersey is retired by the team on February 9 when the Devils host the Edmonton Oilers.
Devils fans have several ways to take part and leave their mark in the retirement festivities.
Enter the Time Capsule Contest
A "Marty's Moments" contest has been launched on the Devils' website. Five winners will be selected and each will contribute a piece of Brodeur memorabilia to the time capsule during a special ceremony at the Prudential Center on February 8th, 2016.
You can enter the Marty Moments Contest on the Devils' site.
Leave a Video Message for Marty
At three upcoming home games, the Devils will set up a video station to allow fans to record a video message describing their favorite Marty Moments. The station will be set up at the following games:
- Thursday, December 17th (vs. Florida Panthers)
- Saturday, December 19th (vs. Anaheim Ducks)
- Saturday, January 2nd (vs. Dallas Stars)
The videos will be aired during the ceremony.
Design a Commemorative Mask
The Devils are accepting designs for a commemorative mask which will be given to Brodeur. The winner will present the mask to Brodeur during the weekend festivities, and receive a duplicate of the winning mask, signed by Brodeur himself.
What Would You Add?
The Devils' franchise is offering fans a variety of ways to take part in the retirement weekend celebration. While each of the options presented are engaging, being able to contribute to the time capsule stands out to me as the most exciting way one could participate.
If you won the contest, what would be your contribution to the Martin Brodeur time capsule?
