3On Monday the New Jersey Devils claimed Bobby Farnham off waivers. Farnham, who was placed on waivers yesterday by the Pittsburgh Penguins will have an opportunity to play with New Jersey in the NHL. According to coach Hynes Farnham could play in the next game against the Blue Jackets.
Farnham played at Wilkes-Barre Scranton for John Hynes the previous three seasons in addition to a total of 14 NHL games. Although not an offensive threat (in his career 197 AHL games he has a total of 39 points), Farnham creates havoc on the ice in a 4th role.
Impact on the Devils
Farnham won't be asked to provide an offensive output for the team but he will be asked to provide an effective fourth line role under Hynes, a coach he has familiarity with. With the injuries to forwards and the extra roster space, Farnham will serve as a depth player for the team. With the injuries to Tuomo Ruutu and Patrik Elias, the forward space in the line up allows Farnham to come into New Jersey and possibly immediate contribute in a fourth line role.
In college, he served as an assistant captain at Brown in his senior season meaning he will provide a form of leadership to the team in would could possibly be an enforcer role as well.
