Patrik Elias Drafted to Team Toews, Will Be Part of NHL All-Star Skill Competitions

Patrik Elias has been selected by Jonathan Toews' team on Friday night for the 2015 NHL All-Star Game. He will also participate in the accuracy and shootout competitions tonight for the NHL All-Star Skills Competition. Consider this an open post for tonight's Skills Competition, too.

I can't pass up using this photo. Stalock is making a save, though he looks like he's giving out a "Why I oughta."

Last night, the two captains of the All-Star Game, Jonathan Toews and Nick Foligno, drafted their team.  Patrik Elias of the New Jersey Devils was picked among the forwards and ahead of Alex Ovechkin.  The Capitals' star was jokingly unhappy as he wanted that car that the last picked player gets. Toews' team is short a forward.  Injuries have hit other selected players for the weekend, and with so many other players away with other plans (vacation), they figured it's pointless to have an extra forward.  So it could mean a little more ice time for #26.

Here are the full rosters for both All-Star teams, including the trade that was made right before Elias was selected by Toews. Thanks to Travis Hughes for providing the HTML code to just drag and drop this in here.

If you don't want to wait until 5 PM EST tomorrow to watch the NHL All-Star Game to see Elias, or if you want to see him tonight, then you're in a luck.  Elias will be involved in two of the 2015 NHL All-Star Skills Competition activities. He will be one of the passers to Ryan Getlzaf, John Tavares, Patrice Bergeron, and Toews for the Accuracy Shooting competition.  Elias is also a part of the Shootout competition; he will shoot in the second round for Team Toews.  It seems a little cruel to have a New Jersey Devil player in a shootout given recent futility.  However, prior to the 2012 lockout, Elias was very good in the shootout.  Here's hoping he at least gets a shot on net in this one.  The Skills Competition will air live at 7 PM EST tonight on NBCSN and CBC.

Incidentally, consider this to be somewhat of an open post for the Skills Competition.  Will you watch this? Will you watch the All-Star Game tomorrow at 5 PM EST?   Given today's news for the World Cup of Hockey (or as I like to call it, The Ryder Cup of Hockey - and, no, I don't mean Michael) returning and the 2016 outdoor games, what do you make of them?  Please leave your answers and other thoughts about tonight's Skills Competition in the comments. Thank you for reading.
