This post will recap the eighth week of Devils prospect action for the 2014-15 season. It's highlighted by Ryan Kujawinski continuing a six game scoring streak, Blake Coleman getting it done offensively and in the faceoff circle, and the Albany Devils hit an injury crisis. Check out the stats below!

In his three games over the past week, Ryan Kujawinski picked up three goals and an assist. He is on a six game scoring streak with six goals and 3 assists. He needs to be over a point per game player this season so hopefully this is a sign of his game coming around. The Devils other OHL prospect, Connor Chatham, picked up two assists against Erie but was held off the scoresheet in his other two games this week. He currently has just those two assists in his last five games.
John Quenneville added a goal and two assist on Friday against Edmonton but was scoreless in his other two games. Speaking of Edmonton, Brandon Baddock was held scoreless in a game against Moose Jaw but picked up a goal and two assist in a weekend series against Brandon. The Devils other WHL prospect, Ryan Rehill, had an assist in three games from this past week. He did manage to only pick up four penalty minutes, all in the same game against Spokane. It's nice to see him cut down on the minor penalties.
Anthony Brodeur didn't play this week as he was picked up on waivers by Drummondville. Louis-Philippe Guindon is the undisputed starter but Brodeur will have the chance to compete for the backup role with New Jersey native Joe Fleschler.

Blake Coleman continued his strong senior campaign with two goals and two assists this weekend while winning 68.75% of his faceoffs. He's maintained a strong 4.17 shots per game rate in the early part of the season. The other Devils senior prospect in college hockey, Blake Pietila, was held scoreless this weekend as Michigan Tech suffered their first two losses of the year to Minnesota State. He did rebound from a tough week in the faceoff circle to win 60.87% of his faceoffs.
Alexander Kerfoot currently leads Harvard in scoring as the top line center. Against Dartmouth and Bentley this past week, he added four assists to give him nine assists in eight games played.
Steve Santini remains out until January with a wrist injury. The Devils other defensive prospect in college hockey, Joshua Jacobs was held scoreless against Ohio State but managed eight blocks in two games over the weekend.

It was another quiet weekend for Joey Dudek as he was held scoreless with just three shots in two games in USHL action.

Defensive Depth Dwindling: With Seth Helgeson and Peter Harrold with the big club and Mark Fraser out all weekend due to a suspension, Albany was left with just six available defensemen for the weekend. Problems arose on Saturday when both Dan Kelly and Reece Scarlett had to leave the game with lower body injuries. The Devils quickly signed ex-Trenton Titan and Albany Devil, Eric Baier, to a tryout contract to give them five available defensemen. Baier had spent the majority of 2011-13 with the Titans and played 13 games for Albany in the 2011-12 season. He is in his second year with the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL.
Friday 11/21: Albany lost to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 5-1. The lone Devils goal was scored by Joe Whitney with an assist going to Reece Scarlett. Keith Kinkaid started the game and made 7 saves on 11 shots in 22:36 of action. Scott Wedgewood came in and made 11 saves on 12 shots in 37:24. The game featured ex-Devil Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond picking up one game suspension for contact to the head of Ben Johnson, who seemed fine afterwards. Here is the gamesheet and highlights:
Saturday 11/22: Albany was crushed by Binghamton 7-0. Scott Wedgewood started the game and lasted two periods as he allowed 5 goals on 24 shots. Keith Kinkaid played the third period and made 8 saves on 10 shots. Dan Kelly was lost to injury after the first period and Reece Scarlett was hurt after the second period. Raman Hrabarenka walked away from this game with a -5 rating with Joe Faust right behind at -4. Brandon Burlon somehow finished with an even rating and 5 shots. Here is the gamesheet and some lowlights:
Sunday 11/23: Albany defeated Bridgeport 5-2. Paul Thompson led the Devils with a goal and an assist. Brandon Burlon, Raman Hrabarenka, Eric Baier, and Ben Johnson scored the other goals for the Devils. Mike Sislo, Reid Boucher, Graham Black, Chris McKelvie, Joe Whitney, and Joe Faust each had an assist. Keith Kinkaid made 26 saves on 28 shots. Here is the gamesheet and highlights:
Devils Snapshot: Albany currently has 20 points from 18 games to start the season. The penalty kill has continued to improve, going 5/6 on the weekend to give them a 80.68% success rate on the year. The power play has continued to struggle, going 1/14 on the weekend with a 14.94% success rate on the season. Through 18 games the Devils have an all situation PDO of 100.18% and a rolling three game average of 91.22%.
Injury Update: Kelly Zajac and Cam Janssen remain out indefinitely. Dan Kelly, Reece Scarlett, and Scott Timmins were all injured after Saturday's game while Rod Pelley was hurt with a minor injury in Sunday's game.
Slumping: Two of the Devils key prospects are struggling in Albany at the moment. Reid Boucher has just 2 goals and 4 assists in 14 games while Stefan Matteau has only a goal and 5 assists in 14 games. In 8 games for the month of November, Boucher has only put up a goal and an assist. His 2.5 shots per game is solid though I would like to see it a bit higher. He is only shooting at 5.71% so perhaps some of this is bad luck but it is somewhat concerning. Hopefully his shots start to find the back of the net. Matteau is having an even tougher time as of late with just 2 assists in 11 games this month. Infact, his only goal of the season happened in the opener against Adirondack. He is only averaging 1.43 shots per game which I wish was higher. Like Boucher, he does appear to have some bad luck with a shooting percentage of 5.0%.

Myles Bell only managed an assist in four games this past week. Infact, that assist is his only point in his last six games. This is a league he should be dominating so hopefully he can get back to producing how he did when he first got to Evansville.
Maxime Clermont turned in two quality outings in three starts during the weak for Orlando.
Prospect of the Week
Since Ryan Kujawinski was covered last week, I wanted to give this week's honors to Blake Coleman. The Miami senior from Plano, Texas picked up four points in two games over the weekend to give him 15 points in 12 games on the year. Coleman is second on his team in scoring while being 11th in the country in shots per game (4.17) and 6th in faceoff percentage (66.2%). He has split time between left wing and center during his college career but it's nice to see he is doing well to start the year in the circle, after putting up a 51.36% success rate last season.
ADevil of the Week
Hard to choose one player for Albany given the tough week. Despite being suspended for the first two games of the three-in-three, Paul Thompson did add a goal and an assist to help Albany to a win on Sunday. He leads the team in goals (10) and points (16) while managing 46 shots in 16 games. He is currently tied for 2nd in the AHL in goals and has proven to be a key offseason acquisition.
