Originally, we intended this week's Talking Red to be a show that featured one really good interview and some discussion over some percolating topics. And then it became more or less assumed that Josh Harris and his group will buy the New Jersey Devils. So we re-recorded part of the show assuming that it's going to happen on Wednesday evening. And after we re-recorded that part of the show, Gulitti reported that the NHL Board of Governors did approve Harris and his group and so it is expected that they will be announced as the new owners of the team on Thursday morning. Good thing David Sarch and I made that assumption. The lesson learned: always assume.

Just kidding. That's not the lesson to learn. And even if it was, Robert Vollman would be one of (hopefully) many to smack us down about it. David and I interviewed Vollman about his brand new book Hockey Abstract. We go over several topics within the book from player usage charts, what he'd like to see in stat-keeping, analytics and their benefits and limitations, and a bit about the Devils among other topics. You can follow Vollman on Twitter here, visit his site here, and/or purchase the book at Amazon or a PDF of the book at Payloadz. I reviewed the book two weeks ago, for what it's worth.

Thanks go to Robert Vollman for taking the time out of his day to talk hockey and his book on TR. Thanks also go to David for having me on and patiently re-doing material in light of important information. There may be new ownership, but the ways to listen to Talking Red remain the same regardless. You can go get the show directly at the TR website. You can go to iTunes or Stitcher and find the show there. You can even stay here and listen to a stream of it. Whichever way you choose, this week's show is 1:15:33 long and 17.29 MB large.
