Albany Notes:
- In the first of two games last week, the Albany Devils defeated the Binghamton Senators 3-2 in a shootout. This was the Devils' third win in a row with goals from Harri Pesonen and Mike Sislo in regulation. Keith Kinkaid was in net and had to make 39 saves, including 14 in overtime. He also made four saves in the shootout to get his eighth win of the season. Here are the highlights:
- On Tuesday, Keith Kinkaid made 22 saves to shutout the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 3-0. The goals were from Reece Scarlett, Raman Hrabarenka, and Joe Whitney. Whitney also had an assist on the other two goals. After the game, Joe Whitney said,
"We are playing well as of late. We are taking it one game at a time. It's every guy in the rooms and it's a complete team effort. We are really breaking it down to every shift, playing as a five-man unit. It seems to be working for us and hopefully it will continue."
Here are the highlights from the game:
- Joe Whitney leads Albany in scoring with 26 points. He has 12 more points than they next active player on the rosters, Mike Sislo. He is seventh in the AHL in scoring.
- Keith Kinkaid now leads the AHL with three shutouts. He is the fourth ranked goalie in the league, but has the most games played (14) of those four. He has ten total wins on the season.
- The Devils are sitting at 4th in the Eastern conference in the AHL and are just two points behind the Springfield Falcons for 1st in the Northeast Division. A cool side note - the team has been named 2nd in the AHL power rankings for the last two weeks.
- Prospects in the NHL:
- Reid Boucher is holding his own in the NHL. He has two assists in four games and has seen time on the top line with Travis Zajac and Jaromir Jagr. John Merrill and Eric Gelinas have been playing some minutes together and have been solid. Gelinas had the huge overtime winner at MSG last week. Cam Janssen and Tim Sestito aren't getting in the way of everything. Janssen even had a goal against the Rangers which started the come back overtime win.
Other Notes:
- Maxime Clermont got his first and second wins of the season in Elmira. He has played eight games so for the Jackals.
- Myles Bell and Damon Severson had a good week for Kelowna. Bell had three goals (one shorthanded) and two assists in four games. Severson had two goals and four assists in four games.
- In his third week with the North Bay Battalion, Ben Thomson had three goals and three assists. In only 20 games on the season, he is fifth on the team in scoring with each player above him having played 32 games.
- In his first game back after being scratched for all but four games for UND this season, Derek Rodwell netted a game winner and played all three games for the University of North Dakota last weekend. He has two goals this season, which matches his goal total from last season.
Prospect of the Week:
He is the prospect of the season so far - Keith Kinkaid. With his third shutout of the season, Kinkaid leads the AHL in that category and is one of the top goalies in the league. He is proving his worth to the Devils organization with just three regulation losses in fourteen games played. He has helped the Albany Devils be the surprise team in the AHL this season.
What do you think of each AHL player currently on the NHL Devils' roster? Is there anyone you'd rather see called up? Do you think Kinkaid can keep up his strong play as the season progresses? Please discuss your thoughts on the Albany Devils and other prospects in the comments below. Thanks for reading!
