Individual Notes

Stefan Matteau- Junior had a pretty rough week, only putting up 1 goal in three games. The effort was there however- he had 15 shot attempts that game (6 of which made it through). Hopefully he'll be a bit more luckier next week.

Individual Notes

Reid Boucher- Boucher had 10 points over the last 6 games, but he recently snapped his 8 game point streak (18 points). He did fine without Alex Galchenyuk in the lineup, with 15 points in the 7 games Galchenyuk didn't play in.

Artur Gavrus- You haven't seen this name in this roundup in a while, simply because he's been playing in Europe. The Attack have announced that Gavrus has officially returned to the team and will play in one of their games this week.

Ben Johnson- Johnson slowly but surely keeps on improving offensively. He had his best offensive month (6 points (!)) and started January off with a 2 goal performance. Another reason why Johnson might have a better go-around in 2013- the return of Alexander Khokhlachev. An elite offensive player might be the shot in the arm the Spits need, and Johnson would definitely be a beneficiary of Khokhlachev's return.

Ben Thomson- Thomson had a solid week, with a two point night against the Peterborough Petes.

Individual Notes

Graham Black- Black's production has been declining since his great November. He had only 6 points in December and started January off with 1 point in three games. I'm not too worried, however.

Reece Scarlett- On the other end of the Hot/Cold spectrum on the Broncos, Scarlett is doing pretty well for himself. While the season hasn't been going very well for him, he's still managing to be effective.

Damon Severson- Damon Severson passed the inactive Seth Jones and Morgan Rielly for 8th amongst WHL D in scoring with three points. Will still be a while before he catches Brendan Kichton and his 47 points.

Devils Junior Prospect of the Week- Reid Boucher

I might as well just rename this the "Reid Boucher award of Junior awesomness" because he pretty much wins this every week.

Mid-Season Grades

Graham Black: B

I really can't say that I'm disappointed or impressed with him. He's probably not going to be a scorer at the pro level, but he's better at the other parts of the game (defense, play away from the puck, penalty killing). Playing on a relatively weak Swift Current team doesn't help, but I can't say that he's been awful.

Reid Boucher: A+

He leads the OHL in goals scored with 30. He's tied for 7th in OHL scoring with 52 points. While he is playing on a team with two other top 10 OHL scorers (Galchenyuk and Charles Sarault), you can't take much away from how well he's played so far for the Sting.

Ben Johnson: D+

I kind of feel bad giving him this grade. His team isn't very good and while his offense has been poor, he has been good away from the puck and does show glimpses of potential. He is starting to play a bit better and with the return of Khokhlachev he should start putting up more points.

Alexander Kerfoot: A

He got hurt, but he was very effective when he was healthy.

Stefan Matteau: A-

While his offensive numbers aren't that great, he hasn't been relied on by Blainville to drive the offense- rather guys like Tommy Giroux and Xavier Oullet have been doing that job. He has been doing a good job as a secondary scorer and role player- he does a good job playing away from the puck and is sound defensively. When he's a key contributor on offense, then I might start worrying about his offensive numbers. However, I'm not too worried about his offense right now. He could try and take a lot less penalties as well.

Reece Scarlett: B-

He did have a relatively rough go with all the injuries to start the season, but he's starting to round into form recently.

Damon Severson: A-

He's been hot lately, but the only reason why he's got an A- is that he could maybe be a bit more consistent with his offensive performance- his ice cold November wasn't that great.

Ben Thomson: C

He hasn't fought as much as he normally would (thanks to the new fighting policy in the OHL), which is somewhat encouraging. I'm not really impressed or disappointed with his play, seeing as my expectations for him were actually pretty low. So really, he's pretty much living up to my low expectations.

Feel free to discuss your thoughts on the Devils prospects.
