New Jersey Devils European League Roundup: Week 7

Zidlicky had a monster week, Clarkson racked up the PIM's, and Kovalchuk cooling off?

The NHL has been without a CBA for over 50 days. Whoa. Anyways, Read on to find out how your favorite New Jersey Devils have been doing abroad. Also, check out the NEW power rankings at the end of the post.

Updates

Anton Volchenkov is still out with an ankle injury. Vladimir Zharkov continued to not be impressive in the KHL, he played one game and picked up a +1. I'm pretty disappointed in Zharkov's play, I was expecting Zharkov to play a little better at the KHL level. David Clarkson played 2 games and had 15 penalty minutes. I tried to find out how he managed that, but couldn't find any articles on how he managed to rack up all those PIMs.

Artur Gavrus picked up two goals in three games. Gavrus is playing impressively in the Belarus League, he has 6 points through 10 games, almost double what I would have expected. It's nice to see an offensive prospect for the Devils playing well, even if it is in Europe.

Kovalchuk only played one game, but picked up two assists and a +3. While Kovalchuk didn't have a third three point week in a row, he did only play one game. Kovalchuk is closing in on a scoring rate of two points per game. While I am impressed by the rate Kovalchuk is scoring; I am disappointed that the Devils are losing one of Kovalchuk's prime years as both an offensive powerhouse and a leader for the Devils.

The most impressive Devil abroad of the week was Marek Zidlicky.Zidlicky played 2 games and picked up 5 assists. Zidlicky mainly did this by helping Jaromir Jagr pick up a hat trick. But 5 assists in two games is impressive in any league! Check out on of Zidlicky's assists below.

A new feature I'm going to add to the weekly European Roundup is a power rankings. Now, there are only 6 players abroad and one is injured, but I still thought it would be fun to see which player everyone thinks is the most impressive in the respective leagues they are playing in.

Power Ranking: Week 7
1 Zidlicky Impressive 5 assist week not to mention a +13
2 Kovalchuk 1.625 PPG --> Insane
3 Gavrus 2 goals in 3 games is great for a young player in Belarus
4 Clarkson 15 PIM's, hilarious
5 Zharkov Continue to underperform in the KHL
6 Volchenkov Injured

On a more positive note, the NHL and NHLPA seem to be coming to some sort of "general" agreement, so let's hope for the best! Anyways, if anyone is heading to Europe and will catch a European game , I'm curious to know what the atmosphere is like compared to the NHL/AHL experience? Everyone else, Thanks for reading!
