New Jersey Devils Prospects College Roundup Week 5

A weekly roundup of the college prospects for the New Jersey Devils including point totals and team standings.

Welcome to the weekly college prospect roundup. Blake Coleman was the only prospect in the CCHA in action last week since Merrill is injured and Gedig had a week off. All four WCHA prospects were in action. Keep reading to see how they did.

Jon Merrill:

Merrill is still out with an injury, but he may be back for an important date to Devils fans. On November 24, the University of Michigan will be playing Cornell at Madison Square Garden in New York. The game will also be broadcasted on MSG Network. If Merrills recovery is going well, he could be back that weekend. Hopefully Devils fans will get to see him play on the big stage.

The University of Michigan is really starting to miss Merrill, surrendering 3.2 goals per game but Jon is making the most of his time off the ice working his lower body and becoming a major voice off the ice.

Blake Coleman:

Coleman was kept off the score sheet for the second week in a row. Miami went 1-1 against Ferris State. Hopefully Coleman can get his scoring touch back this weekend against Northern Michigan.

Curtis Gedig:

The Buckeyes were off last weekend, giving Gedig an extra week to recover from his injury. He is expected to play this weekend against Alaska.

In the CCHA, Miami is ranked fifth while University of Michigan and Ohio State are at eighth and ninth.

Blake Pietila:

The Huskies were winless this weekend against Nebraska - Omaha. Although Michigan Tech was unsuccessful, Pietila had a goal and an assist on six shots. He also received a penalty for holding.

Derek Rodwell:

Rodwell has yet to find the back of the net this season. UND went 1-1 against Boston University on the weekend with just two shots from Rodwell.

Seth Helgeson:

Helgeson earned his first point of the season in a 5-3 loss to Minnesota State University. The Gophers won the previous night to MSU. Helgeson received two minutes for roughing in what seemed to be quite the brawl as five other men got the same punishment.

Joe Faust:

Joe Faust and the Badgers went 0-2 against Colorado College. Faust had just one shot and was a minus two on the weekend.

In the WCHA, the University of Minnesota is ranked fifth, UND and Wisconsin take seventh and eighth, while Michigan Tech has the tenth spot.

Blake Pietila was my stand out this week. Although the Huskies lost both games, Pietila found a way to get on the score sheet each night with a goal on Friday and an assist on Saturday. He leads the college prospects in points.

Thanks for reading this week's roundup. Feel free to comment below on your thoughts about the young players.
