New Jersey Devils European League Roundup: Week 8

The Devils abroad had a very quiet week in Europe.

Al Bello

Eight weeks of European League Roundups and this week has been the quietest of them all. The Devils who are playing abroad have only played a handful of games this week, with only one assist being tallied by all six Devils abroad.

Stats

Player League Team GP G A P PIM +/-
Anton Volchenkov KHL Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod 3 0 0 0 4 -2
Vladimir Zharkov KHL CSKA Moscow 22 2 1 3 2 -1

Marek Zidlicky Czech Extraliga HC Kladno 19 1 15 16 22 11
Ilya Kovalchuk KHL SKA St. Petersburg 17 9 17 26 8 14

Updates

Anton Volchenkov is still out with a fractured ankle. Hopefully he is healing and will be back in less than a month. Zharkov played one game and had no change to his stats. Clarkson and Gavrus didn't play a game this week, so there is no update for them either. Kovalchuk played one game and picked up two penalty minutes. Finally, Zidlicky played two games and picked up an assist.

Power Rankings

Power Ranking: Week 8 Change

2 Kovalchuk Virtually no change, still impressive -
3 Gavrus

No Change

4 David Clarkson No Change -
5 Zharkov No Change -
6 Volchenkov Injured -

As you can see, there was very little action to compare with. Therefore, the power rankings are identical to last week. Hopefully next week there will be a little bit more to discuss.

Team Updates

Since there was very little change at the player level, I thought I would give an update on the Devils' teams abroad. I'll start with the lowest ranked team and move up. The EC Red Bulls (Clarkson) are in 9th place and are 11 points out of first place in the Bundesliga. HC Neman (Gavrus) is in 3rd place and are 12 points away from first place in the Belarus League. HC Kladno (Zidlicky) is in 2nd place and only 4 points away from Skoda Plzen for first place in the Czech Extraliga.

As for the KHL teams that have Devils' players, they are all in the West Conference so I thought I would include the whole conference standings from the KHL website.

Torpedo Nizhny (Volchenkov) holds 5th place and CSKA (Zharkov) holds 4th place in the KHL's Western Conference. Kovalchuk's SKA is in third place and is four points out of first place in the West. However, SKA hasthe largest goal for/goals against ratio and has the most wins. So it seems that SKA is primed to make a run for first place. First place is currently held by Alex Ovechkin and Dynamo Moscow.

That's it for the European Roundup this week. Feel free to discuss anything relating to the Devils abroad in the comments below.
