Henrique and Larsson to Represent Devils At the All-Star Rookie Game

First off, on a serious note, congratulations to Adam Henrique and Adam Larsson on being named as representatives in the rookie game. Both of them are deserving of the honor. Henrique is 2nd amongst rookies in scoring and is tied for the league lead in SHGs with 4. Larsson leads rookie defensemen in points and all rookies in Ice time.

/Rant However, I have a bit of a problem with the Devils representing the big game- none. Patrik Elias (15-25-40), Zach Parise (15-23-38) and Ilya Kovalchuk (17-21-38) are all snubbed in favour of big name players on popular teams.

What's laughable about the whole thing is that there are several players on that team that shouldn't even be there in the first place. Corey Perry, Alex Ovechkin and Marian Gaborik are all there based on name recognition. There are three Devils with more points than those three, yet none were selected. Jarome Iginla and John Tavares I can understand, they're pity selections because their teams have no one else who can represent their teams. But Gaborik, who's only accomplishment is scoring 22 goals (he has less points than Elias, Kovalchuk and Parise and does nothing short handed) is a fit because he's on a good team? Or Ovechkin, who has as many goals as Kovalchuk but doesn't even lead his team in scoring (Nick Backstrom does). /End Rant

The only good in this is that three of the team's most important pieces get rest over the break. Elias is 35 right now and could use a break. Kovalchuk is logging tons of ice time and could use a break. The same could go for Parise. This whole thing could be a blessing in disguise, but I'm still pretty annoyed that they got snubbed.

Edit: I didn't throw this in, but there's the whole possibility that they could've been named to the team but declined because they wanted to rest. Teemu Selanne and Nick Lidstrom were asked if they wanted to, but declined. Maybe they were asked by the team before the selections, and then declined before the selections were formally announced.
